Description

Convert a Single Sprinkler Head Into a Complete Garden Bed Drip System — Everything Included.

The DripWorks 1/2" Sprinkler to Drip Conversion Kit (SKU: KCV2) is the streamlined, garden-bed-focused companion to our 8-Way kit — designed specifically for converting a single pop-up sprinkler head into a dedicated drip irrigation zone for garden beds, border plantings, or isolated planting areas. No trenching, no replumbing. Your existing sprinkler laterals, valves, and riser do all the heavy lifting; this kit provides everything you need to turn that riser into a fully operational drip system.

Unlike the 8-Way kit's multi-outlet manifold approach, this kit distributes water through a 50' run of 1/2" polyethylene mainline tubing — the backbone of a classic drip layout. From the mainline, you punch in 1/4" transfer barbs using the included Pocket Punch tool and branch out to individual plants or rows using 1/4" polyethylene micro tubing and 1/4" soaker dripline (12" emitter spacing, 1/2 GPH). The 1/2" Easy Loc couplers and end caps make connecting and terminating the mainline fast and tool-free. The included Filter/Pressure Regulator Combo Unit (60 PSI max) steps incoming sprinkler-zone pressure down to safe drip levels, while the built-in screen protects downstream emitters and fittings from clogging.

Need to water containers, raised beds, and multiple isolated spots from a single riser? Consider the 8-Way Sprinkler to Drip Conversion Kit (KCV1) instead. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between this kit (KCV2) and the 8-Way Conversion Kit (KCV1)?
The KCV2 (1/2" kit) is built around a 1/2" polyethylene mainline that runs along a garden bed or border, with 1/4" micro tubing and soaker dripline branching off to individual plants. It's best for watering a single contiguous garden area. The KCV1 (8-Way kit) uses a multi-outlet manifold to send water in up to eight separate directions simultaneously — ideal for watering containers, raised beds, and multiple isolated planting spots spread across a wider area from a single riser.

What type of sprinkler riser does this kit connect to?
The Filter/Pressure Regulator unit has a 1/2" FPT (female pipe thread) inlet that threads directly onto a standard 1/2" MPT (male pipe thread) riser — the most common size in residential sprinkler systems. If your existing riser is 3/4" MPT, you will need a threaded reducing coupler (sold separately) and a 1/2" nipple to adapt it before connecting the kit.

Why is it important to run drip on a separate zone from lawn sprinklers?
Drip irrigation operates at much lower pressure and requires significantly longer run times than sprinkler heads. Running both on the same zone simultaneously will cause under-watering for the drip zone and potential over-pressurization of drip fittings. Make sure the riser being converted is on a dedicated valve zone — or that all heads on that zone are converted to drip at the same time.

What does the Pocket Punch do, and do I need it?
The Pocket Punch creates clean, correctly sized 1/4" holes in the 1/2" mainline tubing so that 1/4" transfer barbs seat securely without leaking. It is essential for installing 1/4" micro tubing and soaker dripline branches off the mainline — and it's included in this kit, so no additional tools are required for the installation.

What is the difference between the 1/4" Polyethylene Micro Tubing and the 1/4" Soaker Dripline?
The 1/4" Polyethylene Micro Tubing is solid (non-emitting) tubing used to route water from the mainline to a specific plant location. The 1/4" Soaker Dripline (12" emitter spacing, 1/2 GPH per emitter) is used to distribute water along a row or bed, slowly releasing water at each built-in emitter. Typically, you run solid micro tubing from a punch point on the mainline to the edge of a planting area, then use soaker dripline to weave through the bed itself.

How do the Easy Loc fittings work?
The 1/2" Easy Loc Couplers and End Caps use a push-fit locking mechanism that grips the 1/2" mainline tubing securely without barbs or clamps. Simply push the tubing in until it seats — no tools needed. They make splitting, joining, or terminating the mainline quick and reliable, even in tight spaces.

Do I need to adjust my irrigation timer after converting?
Yes — drip irrigation delivers water much more slowly than sprinkler heads, so run times must be extended considerably after conversion. The exact duration depends on your emitter flow rates and the water needs of your plants, but plan on run times that are roughly 3 to 4 times longer than your previous sprinkler schedule for the same zone. After converting, reprogram your irrigation timer and check soil moisture during the first several cycles to dial in the schedule.

What should I do with sprinkler heads I'm not converting on the same zone?
Cap them off with a threaded cap. Any uncapped risers on the same zone will release water at full sprinkler-zone pressure when the valve opens, undermining your drip conversion and wasting significant water. All heads on the converted zone should either be converted to drip or capped.

✔ Before You Install — Compatibility Check

Confirm these points before ordering:

  • Riser Size: This kit requires a 1/2" MPT riser. If your riser is 3/4", you'll need a threaded reducing coupler and a 1/2" nipple (sold separately) to adapt it first.
  • Dedicated Zone: All sprinkler heads being replaced must be on a separate zone from any heads still watering turf. Drip and spray heads must never run on the same valve simultaneously.
  • Incoming Pressure: The included Filter/Pressure Regulator handles up to 60 PSI. If your static supply pressure is significantly higher, consider adding an upstream pressure regulator on the main supply line.
  • Layout Planning: The kit includes 50' of 1/2" mainline and 300' total of 1/4" tubing and dripline. Sketch your bed layout before cutting to make sure you have enough reach and tubing for all planting zones.
  • Timer Reprogramming: Drip run times are typically 3–4× longer than sprinkler schedules for the same zone. Update your controller after installation.

Complete Your Drip System

This kit includes everything for a standard conversion, but these additional components can enhance your setup:

  • Irrigation Timers & Controllers: Automate your converted drip zone with a battery-powered or AC timer. Drip zones require longer, less frequent cycles — a dedicated timer makes reprogramming simple and keeps your schedule consistent.
  • Drippers & Emitters: Add individual drip emitters at the end of 1/4" micro tubing runs for precise, adjustable flow to individual plants or containers.
  • Filters: If your water source carries sediment or is from a surface supply, a larger upstream screen or disc filter will protect the combo unit's built-in screen and extend the life of all downstream components.
  • Pressure Regulators: For systems with exceptionally high incoming pressure, an additional inline regulator upstream of the conversion point adds a second layer of protection for all drip components.
  • All Sprinkler to Drip Conversion Products: Browse individual conversion fittings, manifolds, adapters, and replacement parts — including components to expand this kit's coverage.
  • 8-Way Sprinkler to Drip Conversion Kit (KCV1): If you need to water containers, raised beds, and multiple spread-out spots from a single riser, the 8-Way kit's multi-outlet manifold gives you more layout flexibility.
