The Best Drip Irrigation System: What To Consider Before You Buy
Apr 7th 2026
Already running the 8-Way Sprinkler-to-Drip Conversion Kit (KCV1) or the 1/2" Sprinkler-to-Drip Conversion Kit (KCV2) and need more reach? The 8-Way Conversion Kit Add-On (KCVA1) is designed to extend the coverage of either base kit without digging new lines or adding a new irrigation zone. It provides all the additional tubing, fittings, and hardware needed to double your drip layout from a single converted sprinkler head — ideal for larger garden beds, expanded container areas, herb gardens, or densely planted borders.
This is not a standalone product — it must be used in conjunction with the KCV1 or KCV2 base kit, which provides the filter/pressure regulator unit, riser connection, and 8-way manifold needed to drive the system. Once your base kit is installed, this add-on snaps right into the workflow, giving you an additional 8-way manifold, 200' of tubing (100' vinyl micro tubing + 100' soaker dripline), and all the fittings and hold-downs needed to run up to 8 additional drip lines.
Drip irrigation from a converted sprinkler head is one of the most efficient ways to get water directly to plant roots, reduce evaporation, and cut down on weed pressure — and this add-on lets you maximize that investment. The included 1/4" soaker dripline delivers a slow, even 1/2 GPH per emitter at 12" spacing, making it ideal for vegetable beds, flower borders, and herb plots where uniform moisture is critical.

Can I use this add-on kit without purchasing a base kit first?
No — the KCVA1 is an add-on only and is not designed to function as a standalone system. It does not include the filter/pressure regulator unit or the riser connection hardware needed to connect to a sprinkler head. You must first have either the 8-Way Sprinkler-to-Drip Conversion Kit (KCV1) or the 1/2" Sprinkler-to-Drip Conversion Kit (KCV2) installed and operational.
How does this add-on extend my coverage?
The add-on includes an additional 8-way manifold, 200' of 1/4" tubing (split between vinyl micro tubing and soaker dripline), plus fittings, elbows, tees, and hold-downs. You connect the new manifold off your existing system and run the additional drip lines to cover more planting area — without needing additional water supply lines or a new irrigation zone.
What is the difference between the 1/4" Vinyl Micro Tubing and the 1/4" Soaker Dripline?
The 1/4" Vinyl Micro Tubing is solid, non-emitting tubing used to carry water from the manifold to the planting area. The 1/4" Soaker Dripline has pre-installed emitters at 12" spacing that deliver water at 1/2 GPH each directly to the root zone. Typically, you run the vinyl tubing to your planting bed and then connect the soaker dripline as the "last mile" distribution across the bed.
What are goof plugs and why are they included?
Goof plugs are used to seal off unused outlets on the manifold or to plug any 1/4" holes punched in error during installation. They're essential for troubleshooting and maintaining a leak-free drip system.
Can I run this add-on from the same sprinkler head as my base kit?
Yes — the add-on is designed to connect to the same converted sprinkler head system as your base kit. Your water source, pressure regulator, and filter are already in place through the base kit. Just be sure your available water pressure and flow rate can support the additional drip lines. The soaker dripline runs at low flow (1/2 GPH per emitter), so pressure demands remain modest.
Do I need a timer to automate my converted drip system?
A timer is not included with this kit but is highly recommended. Pairing your converted sprinkler-to-drip system with an irrigation timer allows you to automate watering schedules and ensures consistent moisture without manual operation. DripWorks carries battery-operated and AC-powered timers compatible with hose-thread connections.
Is this kit suitable for vegetable gardens, raised beds, and container gardens?
Absolutely. The slow, targeted delivery of the included soaker dripline (1/2 GPH at 12" spacing) is ideal for vegetable beds, herb gardens, raised beds, container plantings, and border gardens. In water-restricted climates — common across the western United States — converting overhead sprinklers to drip delivers meaningful water savings while improving plant health.
The KCVA1 Add-On requires one of the following base kits to be installed and operational before use:
This add-on does not include a filter/pressure regulator unit, riser connection, or thread sealant tape. These are provided in the base kits above.
