Adjustable Punch

A quick guide to creating perfectly centered holes on varying pipe sizes.

Step 1: Adjust the Tubing Guide
Loosen the set screw on the sliding tubing bed. Move the V-shaped guide up or down so that when your specific size of tubing is placed inside, the cutting tip aligns perfectly with the center of the pipe. Tighten the screw to lock it in place.

Step 2: Position the Tubing
Place your poly tubing or Oval Hose securely into the V-shaped channel. Ensure the pipe is resting flat against the guide and is not twisted.

Step 3: Squeeze and Punch
Firmly squeeze the plier handles together in one smooth motion. The sharp cutting tip will pierce the tubing wall and create a clean, precise hole. Release the handles to extract the tip.

Step 4: Insert Your Fitting
Remove the tubing from the tool. Immediately take your drip tape takeoff fitting or Easy Loc barb and push it securely into the freshly punched hole.

As I lay out my new drip tape rows this spring, why should I use the Adjustable Punch instead of a pocket punch?
During spring planting, the Adjustable Punch guarantees perfectly centered holes on large agricultural tubing like 3/4-inch poly and Oval Hose. Pocket punches are only shaped for 1/2-inch tubing and will slip on larger pipes.

An off-center hole on a high-capacity mainline will cause severe leaking around your tape takeoff valves. The sliding V-guide on this tool ensures dead-center accuracy every single time, making large spring row installations much faster.

Will the Adjustable Punch work for standard 1/4-inch drip emitters?
Out of the box, no. The Adjustable Punch includes a large tip designed for oversized drip tape barbs. To punch holes for standard 1/4-inch emitters, you must purchase and install the Small Replacement Tip (PUADJTSM).

Using the included large tip for standard micro emitters will create a hole that is too wide, causing the 1/4" fittings to blow out as soon as the system pressurizes.

What fittings is the included large tip on the Adjustable Punch designed for?
The large tip included with the Adjustable Punch is engineered exclusively for thick, high-flow agricultural fittings, specifically the Tape Loc x 1/4" Barb (LSB), Tape x Barb with Valve (LSBSO), and 1/2" Easy Loc (EL14B).

These oversized barbs require a slightly larger insertion hole to prevent crushing the wall of the mainline tubing when you push them in.

How do I adjust the Adjustable Punch for different sizes of tubing?
Loosen the screw on the side of the Adjustable Punch to free the sliding V-shaped bed. Move the bed until your specific tubing size aligns perfectly with the cutting tip, then retighten the screw.

It is best to test the alignment on a scrap piece of tubing before punching your actual mainline to ensure the hole is positioned dead center.
