Description

Standard Row Start. Secure Tape Takeoff.

The Tape Loc x 1/4" Barb is the essential takeoff fitting for initiating 5/8" drip tape rows from 1/2" or larger polyethylene mainline. By utilizing a standard 1/4" (.250) barb inlet, this adapter allows you to branch off your main water distribution line using a simple punch tool, making it the most common starting point for home vegetable gardens and small-scale row crop systems.

Unlike simple friction-fit barbs, this professional irrigation fitting uses the proven Tape Loc mechanical locking nut to grip the tape securely. This ensures a blowout-proof connection that remains watertight even as water temperatures rise or system pressures fluctuate during the peak of the growing season.

Why Choose Tape Loc Technology?
  • "Punch-and-Plug" Efficiency: The 1/4" barb end snaps directly into holes made by standard 1/4" (250) punch tools, requiring no threaded adapters or specialized manifold components.
  • Blowout-Proof Seal: The locking nut mechanically clamps the tape over the internal barb, creating a connection that exceeds the pressure rating of the drip tape itself.
  • Tool-Free Installation: The large, textured nut is designed for easy hand-tightening in the field—no wrenches, clamps, or messy glues required.
  • UV-Stabilized Durability: Molded from heavy-duty polypropylene to resist UV degradation and common agricultural fertilizers for long-term outdoor use.
  • Fully Reusable: The mechanical lock can be unscrewed and the fitting relocated at any time, providing maximum flexibility for your changing garden layout.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Install row takeoffs in four easy steps.

Step 1: Prep the Mainline
Lay out your 1/2" (or larger) poly tubing. Use a standard 1/4" Punch Tool like the Purple Handle or Miracle Punch to create a clean hole where you want your drip tape row to start.

Step 2: Insert the Barb
Push the 1/4" barb end of the fitting into the punched hole until it snaps into place. Tug gently to ensure the barb is seated securely against the internal wall of the tubing.

Step 3: Prepare the Tape
Rotate the Tape Loc nut backwards (towards the mainline) to expose the sharp tape barb. Slide your 5/8" drip tape over the barb until it hits the plastic shoulder.

Step 4: Lock it Down
Twist the locking nut forward over the tape and hand-tighten firmly. This compresses the tape against the barb to complete the seal.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your components before installation:

  • Inlet: Fits into holes made by common 1/4" (.250) micro-irrigation punches.
  • Outlet: Fits 5/8" Drip Tape only. It will NOT fit 1/2" poly distribution tubing.
  • Pressure: Requires low-pressure regulation (10-15 PSI). Always use a pressure regulator.
  • Mainline: Designed for Polyethylene (PE) mainline. Not for use with PVC pipe unless a grommet is used.

Complete Your System

Everything you need for a professional row crop setup:

  • Tubing Punches: The essential tools for making clean 1/4" holes in your poly mainline.
  • Drip Tape: High-efficiency distribution tape for vegetable rows and crop beds.
  • Tape Loc End Cap: Securely close off your lines with integrated flush capability.
  • Pressure Regulators: Essential to prevent tape bursts from high household water pressure.
  • Goof Plugs: Keep these on hand to plug unused holes if you reconfigure your rows.
