Adjustable Punch Replacement Tips

A quick guide to safely swapping the cutting blade on your adjustable tool.

Step 1: Remove the Old Tip
Using your fingers or a small pair of pliers, grip the threaded base of the dull or incorrect cutting tip currently installed on your Adjustable Punch. Turn it counter-clockwise to unthread and remove it.

Step 2: Clean the Threads
Wipe away any dirt, mud, or plastic shavings from the threaded hole on the jaw of the punch to ensure the new tip seats completely flat.

Step 3: Install the New Tip
Take your new Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip and thread it clockwise into the hole. Tighten it firmly by hand. Do not over-tighten with pliers as this can strip the threads.

Step 4: Test the Punch
Take a scrap piece of poly tubing, adjust the V-guide to fit the pipe, and punch a test hole. Listen for a distinct "pop" to verify the new blade is cutting cleanly.

Before expanding my rows this spring, why should I install a new Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip?
Installing a fresh Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip before spring planting ensures you make perfectly clean cuts. A dull winter blade will stretch and tear the plastic, leading to severe leaks around your fittings.

It is much easier to spend a few dollars on a replacement tip now than to chase down weeping takeoff valves along hundreds of feet of newly pressurized mainline later in the season.

Which Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip do I need for standard drip emitters?
For standard 1/4-inch point-source emitters and transfer barbs, you must purchase the Small Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip (PUADJTSM). The stock large tip will create a hole that is too wide.

If you attempt to insert a standard 1/4" emitter into a hole made by the large tip, the emitter will blow out as soon as the water pressure is turned on.

What fittings require the large Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip?
The Large Adjustable Punch Replacement Tip (PUADJTLG) is specifically engineered for the oversized barbs found on 5/8-inch drip tape takeoff fittings (LSB, LSBSO) and 1/2-inch Easy Loc barbs (EL14B).

These heavy-duty agricultural fittings require a slightly larger entry hole. Attempting to force them into a standard 1/4" hole can crush the wall of your mainline tubing.

Can I use these Adjustable Punch Replacement Tips on a Pocket Punch?
No, these threaded Adjustable Punch Replacement Tips are designed exclusively for the commercial plier-style Adjustable Punch tool (PUADJ). They will not fit the Pocket Punch, Key Punch, or Miracle Punch.

Standard plastic pocket punches feature molded spikes or permanent metal pins that cannot be unscrewed or replaced once they become dull.
