Description

All-in-One Filtration and Pressure Regulation for Small Zones

The Rain Bird 3/4" Pressure Regulating Filter (PRF-075-RBY) is the ultimate space-saving, one-step solution for your residential or light commercial drip irrigation system. By combining a high-efficiency 200-mesh filter and a reliable 30 PSI pressure regulator into a single, compact unit, it drastically reduces the number of components needed in your head assembly. Engineered with standard 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT), this combo unit integrates seamlessly into PVC manifolds and connects perfectly downstream of standard 3/4" irrigation valves or automated timers.

Constructed from heavy-duty, glass-filled polypropylene, the PRF-075-RBY is built to withstand harsh outdoor environments and incoming pressures up to 150 PSI. It is specifically designed for smaller setups, efficiently handling precise flow rates ranging from 0.2 to 5 Gallons Per Minute (12 to 300 GPH). By trapping fine debris while simultaneously dropping the water pressure to a safe 30 PSI, it ensures your sensitive drip tape, emitters, and micro-sprays operate flawlessly without blowing out. Please note: This unit must be installed after an automated timer or valve and is not rated to be left under constant pressure.

Why Choose the Rain Bird 3/4" PRF-075-RBY?
  • 2-in-1 Design: Combines reliable filtration and precise 30 PSI pressure regulation in a single, compact unit, saving space in your valve box.
  • Fewer Leak Points: By eliminating the need to thread a separate filter and pressure regulator together, you cut the potential for leaks in half.
  • Low Flow Accuracy: Regulates pressure accurately down to an incredibly low 0.2 GPM (12 GPH), making it perfect for small raised beds or patio containers.
  • 200 Mesh Screen: Comes pre-assembled with a fine 200-mesh (75-micron) screen, providing superior protection for delicate drip emitters.
  • Standard Pipe Threads: Features 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT) for easy, watertight integration directly into standard PVC pipe manifolds.

How to Set Up: A Step-by-Step Guide

Build your drip irrigation head assembly safely and quickly.

Step 1: Prep the Threads
Because this unit utilizes Male Pipe Threads (MPT), you must apply 2 to 3 wraps of Teflon tape to both the inlet and outlet threads to ensure a watertight seal. Do not use liquid pipe dope.

Step 2: Attach to Your Valve
Thread the inlet of the Rain Bird PRF unit directly into the downstream side (outlet) of your automated 3/4" irrigation valve. Ensure the directional flow arrow on the body points downstream.

Step 3: Add a Tubing Adapter
Thread a 3/4" Female Pipe Thread (FPT) tubing adapter or PVC fitting onto the outlet of the PRF unit to easily transition into your poly mainline or drip tape header.

Step 4: Routine Cleaning
Periodically (once a month) turn off the water supply, unscrew the PRF canister cap, carefully slide the 200-mesh screen out, and rinse it under clean water to remove trapped sediment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave this combo unit under constant pressure?
No, the Rain Bird PRF-075-RBY is not rated for constant pressure. It must be installed after your automated timer or irrigation valve so it only holds pressure when the system is actively watering.

Installing it before the valve leaves it pressurized 24/7, which can eventually cause the canister body to stretch, crack, or leak over time.

What does the 200-mesh screen do?
The 200-mesh screen is a very fine filter (equivalent to 75 microns) designed to trap tiny particles of dirt, sand, and rust. It provides superior protection, preventing even the smallest low-flow drip emitters and micro-sprays from clogging.

Regular cleaning of this screen ensures your system maintains its 0.2-5 GPM flow capacity.

Will this work if my water flow is less than 0.2 GPM?
For the pressure regulator inside the PRF-075-RBY to accurately step the pressure down to 30 PSI, the system requires a minimum flow of 0.2 Gallons Per Minute (12 GPH).

Because this minimum is extremely low, this unit is highly effective for very small drip zones, raised beds, or container gardens that do not pull much water.

How should I prepare my Rain Bird filter for winter?
Before the first freeze, ensure all water is drained from the system. We highly recommend unscrewing the canister cap, removing the screen, and storing the cap and screen indoors for the winter.

Leaving trapped water inside the rigid plastic canister during freezing temperatures will cause the housing to expand and permanently crack.

✔ Compatibility & Design Check

Please note the strict requirements for this combo unit:

  • Thread Type: Features 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT/NPT). It will not thread onto standard garden hoses or hose bibbs without an adapter. Teflon tape is required.
  • Flow Requirement: Your drip zone must draw between 0.2 GPM and 5 GPM (12 to 300 GPH) for the internal regulator to function correctly. If your flow exceeds 5 GPM, you must upgrade to the 1" version.
  • Not for Constant Pressure: Must be placed downstream of automated timers or valves. Do not leave the water turned on directly into this filter without a valve in between.

Complete Your System

Ensure your 3/4" drip irrigation head assembly is protected and ready to run with these recommended products:

  • 3/4" Irrigation Valves: Connect your PRF unit directly downstream of a reliable 3/4" AC or DC irrigation valve for fully automated watering.
  • PVC Fittings: Browse standard schedule 40 PVC threaded fittings to safely integrate this 3/4" MPT unit into your rigid pipe manifold.
  • Mainline Tubing: The standard backbone for delivering water from your new manifold directly to your landscape beds.
