Drip Irrigation Installation for Beginners: Easy DIY Setup Guide

The Hunter MP Rotator MP2000 is the medium-flow member of Hunter's award-winning MP Rotator® family — a rotary nozzle that retrofits directly onto standard spray bodies to deliver slow, steady, multi-stream irrigation that dramatically reduces runoff, erosion, and water waste. Available in three arc configurations to cover virtually any landscape layout, the MP2000 is engineered to irrigate medium-sized turf areas with a throw radius of 13 to 21 feet and a matched precipitation rate of approximately 0.4 inches per hour across all arc settings.
What makes the MP Rotator stand apart from conventional spray nozzles is its multi-stream, rotating delivery pattern. Rather than flooding an area all at once like a fixed fan spray, the MP2000 slowly rotates multiple water streams outward, allowing water to infiltrate the soil before more arrives. This approach virtually eliminates puddling and runoff — making it a favorite for slopes, clay soils, and water-restricted areas. Because the precipitation rate is matched across all arc sizes (90°, 210°, 270°, and 360°), you can mix arc patterns on the same zone without uneven watering or pooling.
The MP2000 comes in three SKU configurations: the MPR20-90 (black, 90°–210° adjustable arc), the MPR20-210 (green, 210°–270° adjustable arc), and the MPR20-360 (red, fixed 360° full circle). Arc and radius are both field-adjustable using the MP Rotator Adjustment Tool (one tool ships free with every MP Rotator order). Each nozzle includes a removable inlet filter for easy cleaning and threads onto any standard female-thread spray body.

Need a smaller coverage area? Consider the MP Rotator MP1000 (Low Flow) for radii of 8–15 feet, or step up to the MP Rotator MP3000 (High Flow) for coverage of 22–30 feet. For tight corners and narrow strips, see the MP Rotator Specialty Nozzles.
The MP2000 is sold in three variants, each color-coded for easy identification in the field:
| SKU | Color | Arc Range | Adjustable? |
|---|---|---|---|
| MPR20-90 | Black | 90° – 210° | Yes |
| MPR20-210 | Green | 210° – 270° | Yes |
| MPR20-360 | Red | 360° (Full Circle) | No (Fixed) |
Note: Radius is adjustable up to 25% on all models using the MP Rotator Adjustment Tool. To achieve full radius reduction, operate at a maximum of 30 PSI.

What spray body does the MP2000 fit?
The MP2000 has a female thread inlet and is compatible with any standard 1/2" NPT male thread spray body. It will fit Hunter, Rain Bird, and most other major brand spray bodies. DripWorks carries a range of compatible spray bodies if you need to replace or add one.
What is "matched precipitation" and why does it matter?
Matched precipitation means that all MP2000 arc variants — 90°, 210°, 270°, and 360° — apply water at the same rate of approximately 0.4 inches per hour. This allows you to mix different arc nozzles on the same irrigation zone without any one area receiving more or less water than another. There is no need to change nozzles to maintain the matched rate.
What is the difference between the MP2000 and the MP1000 or MP3000?
The MP1000 covers a shorter radius of 8–15 feet and is designed for smaller turf areas and tight spaces. The MP2000 covers 13–21 feet and is the standard medium-range option. The MP3000 covers 22–30 feet for larger open areas. All three share the same matched precipitation rate of approximately 0.4 in/hr and can be mixed on a single zone if the radii overlap appropriately.
Which arc variant should I choose — MPR20-90, MPR20-210, or MPR20-360?
Choose based on the shape of the area you need to cover. The MPR20-90 (black) works for narrow strips, corners, and partial arcs from 90°–210°. The MPR20-210 (green) handles wide partial arcs from 210°–270°, ideal for large curved areas. The MPR20-360 (red) delivers a fixed full-circle pattern for round open lawn areas. All three can coexist on the same zone thanks to matched precipitation.
Can I adjust the radius?
Yes. Radius can be reduced by up to 25% using the MP Rotator Adjustment Tool. To achieve the full 25% radius reduction, operate the nozzle at a maximum of 30 PSI. One adjustment tool ships complimentary with every MP Rotator order from DripWorks.
What operating pressure does the MP2000 require?
The recommended operating pressure is 40 PSI, and the operating range is 25–55 PSI. At pressures below 25 PSI, performance will degrade significantly. If your system pressure exceeds 55 PSI, install a pressure regulator upstream to protect the nozzle and maintain optimal coverage.
Why does the MP Rotator reduce runoff compared to a standard spray nozzle?
Standard spray nozzles typically apply water at 1.5–2.0 inches per hour — far faster than most soils can absorb. The MP2000's slow, rotating multi-stream pattern applies water at only 0.4 in/hr, giving soil time to absorb each application before more water arrives. This dramatically reduces puddles, runoff, and erosion, particularly on slopes or heavy clay soils.
Does the MP2000 qualify for water conservation rebates?
Yes, in many regions. This product qualifies for rebates through certain Bay Area water districts. Check the BAWSCA rebate portal to see if your local water district participates.
