Description

Reduce Thread Size. Compact & Secure.

The Schedule 40 PVC Threaded Bushing is a space-saving adapter designed to reduce the thread size of a fitting without adding extra length to your system. It features Male Pipe Threads (MIPT) on the exterior and smaller Female Pipe Threads (FIPT) on the interior, allowing it to screw flush (or nearly flush) into a larger port.

This fitting is essential for adapting large irrigation headers or pump outlets to smaller components. For example, you can use a threaded bushing to step down a 1" Tee outlet to accept a Pressure Gauge or 1/2" sprinkler riser, creating a clean and professional connection without the need for glue.

Why Choose Dura Schedule 40 PVC?
  • Compact Reduction: By nesting the reduction inside the fitting, bushings save valuable space compared to bulky external reducing couplings.
  • Glue-Free Modification: Allows you to change the outlet size of a threaded manifold instantly using only tape and a wrench.
  • Professional Quality: Injection-molded from virgin PVC resin, meeting ASTM D-2466 standards for thread precision and burst pressure.
  • Chemical Resistance: Durable Schedule 40 construction withstands corrosion from soil environments and agricultural fertilizers.
  • NSF Certified: Approved for use in potable (drinking) water applications.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Proper sealing is required on both the inside and outside threads.

Step 1: Tape the Bushing
Wrap thread seal tape around the external (MIPT) threads of the bushing. Apply 3-4 wraps in a clockwise direction.

Step 2: Install Bushing
Screw the bushing into your larger female fitting (e.g., Tee or Elbow). Tighten with a wrench until snug. Do not overtighten.

Step 3: Tape the Accessory
Wrap tape around the male threads of the smaller component (riser, nipple, or gauge) you intend to install.

Step 4: Complete Connection
Screw the small component into the internal (FIPT) threads of the bushing. Hand-tighten firmly.

✔ Compatibility Check

Ensure you have the right mix:

  • Outside (MIPT): Screws INTO a larger Female Pipe Thread fitting.
  • Inside (FIPT): Accepts a smaller Male Pipe Thread component.
  • It is NOT compatible with Garden Hose Threads (GHT).
  • It is NOT for use with glued pipe.

Complete Your System

Ensure a leak-free system with these essentials:

  • Thread Seal Tape: Mandatory for sealing both connection points on this bushing.
  • PVC Nipples: Use Schedule 80 nipples if you need to connect two female fittings together.
  • PVC Risers: Bush down your tee to fit 1/2", 3/4", or 1"+ risers.
  • Pipe Cutters: Ensure clean, square cuts with our 1", 1-1/2", 2", or Fiskars cutters.
