Description

Threaded Reduction. Glue-Free Versatility.

The Schedule 40 PVC Threaded Bushing (MPT x FPT) is the standard solution for reducing the threaded outlet size of a fitting without using glue. Designed with Male Pipe Threads (MPT) on the outside and smaller Female Pipe Threads (FPT) on the inside, this bushing screws directly into a larger female fitting (like a Tee or Valve) to accept a smaller threaded component. To ensure a leak-free seal on both connection points, the use of Thread Seal Tape is required.

These reliable irrigation fittings are essential for adapting valve manifolds, reducing pump outlets, or stepping down threaded risers. Because they are flush-fitting, they reduce the pipe size efficiently without adding unnecessary bulk or length to the system.

Why Choose a Threaded Bushing?
  • No Glue Needed: Creates a purely mechanical connection that can be assembled or disassembled with simple tools, making system modifications easy.
  • Space Saving: The "nesting" design allows the bushing to sit almost entirely inside the larger fitting, keeping your manifold compact.
  • Dura Quality: Molded from virgin PVC Type I, Grade I resin, ensuring resistance to cracking under pressure and protection against chemical corrosion.
  • Wide Compatibility: Fits any standard Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 female threaded fitting.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Proper taping is crucial for threaded bushings.

Step 1: Tape the Bushing
Apply Thread Seal Tape clockwise to the outer male threads of the bushing (3-5 wraps).

Step 2: Install Bushing
Screw the bushing into your larger female fitting (e.g., Tee or Valve). Hand tighten, then use a wrench for a final half-turn. Do not overtighten.

Step 3: Tape the Inner Component
Apply tape to the male threads of the smaller pipe, nipple, or riser you intend to install.

Step 4: Final Connection
Screw the smaller component into the inner threads of the bushing. Hand tighten plus a quarter turn.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your thread types:

  • Outer Thread (Male): Screws INTO a larger FPT fitting (Tee, Elbow, Coupling).
  • Inner Thread (Female): Accepts a smaller MPT component (Nipple, Riser).
  • Example: A 1" x 3/4" Bushing screws into a 1" FPT Tee and accepts a 3/4" MPT Riser.
  • Note: Not compatible with Garden Hose Threads (GHT).

Complete Your System

Ensure a leak-free assembly with these parts:

  • Thread Seal Tape: Mandatory for all threaded PVC connections.
  • PVC Nipples: Commonly screwed into the inner threads of the bushing.
  • Threaded Tees: A common host fitting for these bushings to create reduced outlets.
  • Valves: Use bushings to reduce valve ports to match your pipe size.
