Description

Row Control. Optimized Flow. Precision Zone Management.

The Tape Loc x .420 Barb w/ Valve is the professional's choice for adding individual row control to a drip tape system. This dual-purpose fitting acts as both a takeoff adapter and a manual shut-off valve, allowing you to isolate specific rows for maintenance, harvesting, or crop rotation without disabling your entire irrigation network.

By integrating a quarter-turn valve directly into your row start, you gain the flexibility to manage diverse crops with different watering needs on a single mainline. It is one of our most essential irrigation fittings for small farms and market gardens where precise water management and zone control are critical for crop health and yield.

Why Choose Tape Loc Valve Technology?
  • Individual Row Isolation: The built-in red handle allows for an easy "on/off" transition. Perfect for shutting off rows that have finished producing while continuing to water active plants.
  • Direct Mainline Connection: The sharp .420 barb is designed for "punch-and-plug" installation directly into 1/2", 3/4", or 1" polyethylene mainline tubing.
  • Superior Seal: The Tape Loc nut twists down to mechanically clamp the tape over the internal barb, providing "annular compression" that prevents blowouts, even in high-heat conditions.
  • Durable Construction: Molded from UV-stabilized polypropylene, this valve is built to withstand harsh sunlight, mechanical stress, and agricultural chemicals.
  • Fully Reusable: The locking mechanism allows you to remove and reuse the fitting season after season without damaging the tape or the valve.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to integrate valves into your row crop layout.

Step 1: Punch the Mainline
Lay out your 1" (or larger) poly tubing. Use a .400 Barb Punch Tool (or compatible hole punch) to create a clean hole where you want your drip tape row to start.

Step 2: Insert the Barb
Ensure the valve handle is in the "off" position. Push the .420 barb end of the fitting into the punched hole until you feel or hear it snap into place.

Step 3: Prepare the Tape
Rotate the Tape Loc nut counter-clockwise (backwards) to expose the sharp tape barb. Slide your 5/8" drip tape over the barb until it hits the stop.

Step 4: Lock and Test
Twist the locking nut clockwise (forward) over the tape to secure the connection. Turn on your water source and rotate the valve handle to the "on" position to test for flow.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your components before installation:

  • Tape Side: Fits standard 5/8" drip tape only. It will NOT fit 1/2" poly tubing.
  • Barb Side: Designed for direct insertion into Polyethylene (PE) mainline tubing.
  • Pressure: Requires a low-pressure environment (under 15 PSI). Always use a pressure regulator.
  • PVC Installation: To install into PVC pipe, you must first install a Top Hat Grommet (requires a 5/8" drill hole).

Complete Your System

Optimize your drip tape rows with these essential accessories:

  • .400 Barb Punch Tool: The ideal tool for making clean, precise holes in your poly mainline for this valve.
  • Drip Tape: High-quality distribution tape for your vegetable rows or crop beds.
  • Tape Loc End Cap: The easiest way to close off your lines while maintaining flushable maintenance points.
  • Goof Plugs: Keep these on hand to plug unwanted holes in your mainline if you move a row.
  • Hold Down Stakes: Secure your tape at the start and end of the row to prevent shifting from wind or temperature changes.
