Spring Garden: May Garden Checklist For Zones 4-5
May 7th 2026
Whether you are managing a large-scale commercial nursery or setting up your home garden for the spring growing season, the 1/8" Spot Spitters (5-Pack) deliver exceptional convenience and water-saving efficiency. Designed to output a 160-degree downward cone spray, these rigid stakes ensure that water is distributed evenly across the soil surface without wetting delicate foliage. By running 1/2" mainline tubing past your pots and branching off with micro tubing, you can establish a robust, reliable container irrigation system in minutes.
Use the chart below to select the right Spot Spitter for your container size.
| Part Model | Color | Flow @ 20 PSI | Container Size | Spray Radius |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MRSO | Orange | 4.2 GPH | 1 - 3 Gallon | 10 Inches |
| MRSG | Green | 11.4 GPH | 5 - 15 Gallon | 16 Inches |
| MRSB | Black | 15.0 GPH | 15 - 20 Gallon | 24 Inches |
Configure your container irrigation network in four simple steps.
Step 1: Punch the Mainline
Use a punch tool to create a clean hole in your 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch poly mainline tubing near the container you wish to water.
Step 2: Insert Transfer Barb
Push a 1/8-inch transfer barb directly into the newly punched hole until it clicks securely into place.
Step 3: Connect Micro Tubing
Attach one end of a length of 1/8-inch micro tubing to the transfer barb, and run the tubing up into your plant container.
Step 4: Attach and Stake
Slide the other end of the 1/8-inch micro tubing onto the top connection point of the Spot Spitter, then push the stake firmly into the soil.
Are the Spot Spitters good for my spring nursery containers?
Yes, Spot Spitters are ideal for spring nursery setups. Their 160-degree downward spray pattern uniformly hydrates the root zone without wetting foliage, which prevents fungal diseases in densely packed potted plants.
The downward angle also keeps water confined to the pot, reducing water waste and keeping your walkways dry.
How do I turn off an individual Spot Spitter if a pot is empty?
Each Spot Spitter features a convenient shutoff plug built directly into the bottom of the stake. Simply pull the 1/8-inch tubing off the top and attach it to the bottom plug to stop water flow completely.
What tubing do I need to connect the Spot Spitters?
You need 1/8-inch micro tubing and a 1/8-inch transfer barb to successfully connect the Spot Spitter directly to your 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch mainline poly tubing.
Which color Spot Spitter do I need for a 10-gallon tree pot?
For a 10-gallon container, you should use the Green Spot Spitter. It delivers 11.4 GPH with a 16-inch spray radius, making it the perfect size for pots ranging from 5 to 15 gallons.
