Description

Small Protection. Big Performance.

The 1/4" Bug Plug (10 Pack) is an ingenious solution for protecting the open ends of your micro-irrigation lines. Designed to fit snugly into the end of 1/4" micro-tubing, these plugs allow water to flow freely while creating a physical barrier against nesting insects. It is a must-have for systems with many open-ended emitters or misting lines.

Commonly used as a wasp preventer or insect plug, this component is one of the most practical irrigation fittings for maintaining a maintenance-free garden. Without these plugs, small spiders and wasps often crawl into the tubing ends to build nests, which eventually causes total system blockages that are difficult to diagnose and repair.

Why Use Bug Plugs in Your System?
  • Stop Insect Blockages: The narrow internal channel allows water to exit but is too small for common garden pests (like mud daubers) to enter and clog the line.
  • Gentle Diffusion: Acts as a mini-diffuser, breaking the high-velocity stream of water into a gentler flow to reduce soil erosion at the end of the line.
  • UV-Stabilized Longevity: Molded from heavy-duty, sun-resistant plastic by NDS to ensure they don't become brittle or crack over several seasons of use.
  • Low Profile: The small, black design blends seamlessly into the garden, providing protection without the bulk of larger end caps.
  • Fast Installation: Requires no glue or clamps; simply push the barbed end into the tubing for a permanent friction fit.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Protect your emitters in seconds.

Step 1: Prep the End of the Line
Ensure your 1/4" micro-tubing has been cut cleanly and squarely at the point where you want water to exit.

Step 2: Push in the Plug
Grasp the head of the bug plug and push the barbed end into the tubing. You should feel it slide in until the shoulder of the plug is flush with the tubing edge.

Step 3: Secure the Layout
If using the plug at the base of a plant, use a hold down stake to secure the tubing in place, ensuring the plug is not buried in mud where it could become physically obstructed.

Step 4: Test Flow
Turn on your system. You should see a steady stream or gentle trickle exiting the center of the plug. If there is no flow, ensure you haven't used a solid goof plug by mistake.

✔ Fitment Verification

Does this plug your tubing?

  • Fits: Standard 1/4" Vinyl or Poly Tubing (.160" - .170" ID).
  • Does NOT Fit: 1/2" or 3/4" Mainline Tubing.
  • Note: This is a flow-through plug. It will NOT stop water flow. If you need to stop flow completely, use a Goof Plug instead.

Complete Your System

Ensure your micro-irrigation system stays protected and efficient with these parts:

  • 1/4" Barbed Tees: Branch your distribution line to reach multiple plants.
  • Punch Tools: Required for inserting 1/4" lines into your 1/2" mainline.
  • Goof Plugs: Use these to permanently seal holes or the end of a line where no water should flow.
  • Drip Emitters: Precision devices for controlled watering at the root zone.
