Description

Clean Corners. Continuous Flow.

The 1/2" Compression Elbow is the standard solution for creating sharp 90-degree turns in your drip irrigation system. Designed to connect two pieces of 1/2" poly tubing, this fitting prevents the "kinking" that often occurs when bending tubing around raised beds, corners, or walkways.

As one of our most essential irrigation fittings, the compression elbow utilizes a simple friction-fit design. An internal ring grips the tubing tightly once inserted, creating a permanent, leak-proof seal without the need for glues or clamps. It is an economical choice for permanent installations where reconfigurability is not required.

Why Choose Compression Fittings?
  • Prevents Kinks: Bending standard poly tubing too tightly restricts water flow. This elbow maintains a full-bore 90-degree turn for optimal pressure.
  • High Security: The internal compression ring creates a bond that is extremely difficult to pull apart, making it ideal for systems that are buried or left under pressure.
  • Low Profile: The sleek black design is less obtrusive than bulky screw-cap fittings, making it easy to hide under mulch or soil.
  • Cost Effective: Compression fittings are generally less expensive than lock-nut style fittings, offering significant savings on large projects.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Install your elbows securely with the "Rock and Push" method.

Step 1: Cut the Tubing
Use a pipe cutter or shears to make a clean, square cut on your 1/2" poly tubing where you need the turn.

Step 2: Warm the Ends (Optional)
If the weather is cold, dip the end of the tubing in warm water or let it sit in the sun. This softens the plastic and makes insertion easier.

Step 3: Push and Rock
Insert the tubing into one end of the elbow. Apply force while "rocking" the tubing back and forth (up and down) to work it past the internal compression ring. You should feel it slide in about 1/2" to 3/4" deep.

Step 4: Repeat
Repeat the process for the other side of the elbow to complete the 90-degree turn.

✔ Compatibility Check

Ensure you have the right size:

  • Fits: Standard 1/2" Poly Tubing with an Outside Diameter (OD) of .700". (This includes most DripWorks mainline).
  • Does NOT Fit: Raindrip brand tubing (.620" OD), 1/2" Drip Tape, or PVC Pipe.
  • Note: Once installed, the tubing is extremely difficult to remove. For reusable options, consider "Easy Loc" fittings.

Complete Your System

Finish your layout with these recommended components:

  • 1/2" Poly Tubing: The standard black tubing compatible with this elbow.
  • Wire Hold Downs: Use these to secure the tubing on both sides of the corner to prevent shifting.
  • Goof Plugs: Essential for plugging accidental holes if you punch an emitter in the wrong spot.
  • Figure 8 End: The simplest way to close off the end of your poly tubing line.
