Description

Stable, Portable Sprinkler Support — Ready Wherever You Water

The Weighted Sled Base (SKU: MSLED) is a simple, sturdy solution for positioning above-ground sprinklers exactly where you need them — without stakes, without digging, and without permanent installation. The heavy weighted base keeps your sprinkler upright and stable during operation, while the sled design makes it easy to pick up and reposition as your watering needs change throughout the season. Whether you're irrigating a vegetable garden, nursery rows, orchard cover crops, or open field areas, the Weighted Sled Base gives you the flexibility of a portable system with the reliability of a secure connection.

The sled base features a 1/2" female pipe thread (FPT) inlet on top, making it directly compatible with the Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler and the Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers — two of the most popular portable sprinklers in the DripWorks lineup. With the right adapter, it can be used with other 1/2" MPT sprinkler heads as well. The female hose thread (FHT) inlet and male hose thread (MHT) outlet allow multiple sled bases to be connected in series using a standard garden hose or 1/2" mainline tubing, so you can run a complete portable sprinkler layout without any complex plumbing.

If you prefer a fixed, ground-penetrating mount instead of a sled, the Metal Support Stake (MGDSM) is a compatible alternative — an 8" stake that accepts the same sprinklers and also connects in series. For a complete pre-assembled staking solution, see the Metal Tee Stake Assembly. Note: color of the sled base may vary from what is shown in the product images.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What sprinklers are compatible with the Weighted Sled Base?
The top of the sled base has a 1/2" female pipe thread (FPT) inlet, which is compatible with any sprinkler that has a 1/2" male pipe thread (MPT) base. The two products designed specifically for use with this sled are the Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler (MGDR) and the Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers (MWL / MWLB). With the appropriate adapter, other sprinklers with a 1/2" MPT base can also be used.

What is the difference between the Weighted Sled Base and the Metal Support Stake?
Both accept the same sprinklers and connect in series using garden hose or mainline tubing. The Weighted Sled Base sits flat on the ground — ideal for hard surfaces, row crops, open field areas, and situations where you don't want to penetrate the soil. The Metal Support Stake (MGDSM) is an 8" stake that pushes into the ground, providing a lower-profile and more permanent anchor. Choose the sled for portable setups; choose the stake for fixed installations in soil.

Can I connect multiple Weighted Sled Bases together?
Yes. The sled base has a female hose thread (FHT) inlet and a male hose thread (MHT) outlet, allowing you to connect multiple bases in series using a standard garden hose or 1/2" mainline tubing. This makes it easy to create a portable multi-sprinkler layout across a row or field without additional fittings or manifolds.

What water pressure is recommended for the Weighted Sled Base and its compatible sprinklers?
The sled base itself has no pressure rating — it is simply a support and connection device. Operating pressure is determined by the sprinkler head attached. The Adjustable Gear Drive operates at 20–50 PSI, and the Mini-Wobblers perform best at 15–25 PSI. If your supply pressure is higher, a pressure regulator is recommended to protect the sprinkler head and ensure uniform coverage.

Can I automate the sled base system with a timer?
Absolutely. The Weighted Sled Base connects via standard hose thread, making it compatible with hose-end timers and battery-operated controllers. DripWorks carries a full range of irrigation timers that can be placed at the hose bib to automate your watering schedule. For multi-zone systems, an inline valve and controller can be used upstream.

Will the color of the sled base always match the product images?
Not necessarily. The color of the sled base may vary from what is shown in the product images. This does not affect performance or compatibility in any way.

Is there a Prop 65 warning for this product?
Yes. This product can expose you to Lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

✔ Compatibility & Setup Check

Before you connect, verify the following:

  • Sprinkler Thread Size: The top of the sled base uses a 1/2" female pipe thread (FPT). Your sprinkler must have a 1/2" male pipe thread (MPT) to connect directly. The Adjustable Gear Drive and Mini-Wobblers connect directly without any adapter.
  • Hose/Tubing Connection: The inlet and outlet use garden hose threads (FHT/MHT). Use a standard garden hose or adapt to 1/2" mainline tubing with the appropriate hose thread fittings.
  • Water Pressure: Match pressure to your sprinkler head's recommended range. Use a pressure regulator if supply pressure exceeds the sprinkler's operating range.
  • Surface Type: The sled base is designed for flat, above-ground use. For use in loose soil or uneven terrain, the Metal Support Stake may provide more stable positioning.
  • Series Connections: When running multiple sled bases in series, ensure your water source has sufficient flow and pressure to operate all sprinklers simultaneously.

Build Your Complete Portable Sprinkler System

Pair your Weighted Sled Base with these compatible products for a fully functional above-ground irrigation setup:

  • Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler (MGDR): Whisper-quiet gear drive sprinkler with adjustable arc (30°–360°) and radius up to 35'. Connects directly to the 1/2" FPT top of the sled base.
  • Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers (MWL / MWLB): Low-pressure, gentle-coverage wobblers ideal for nurseries, ground covers, and frost protection. Available in high-flow (lavender) and low-flow (light blue) models.
  • Metal Support Stake (MGDSM): 8" ground-penetrating stake alternative to the sled base. Accepts the same sprinklers and also connects in series — ideal for in-soil installations.
  • Metal Tee Stake Assembly (POMELT): Pre-assembled staking solution with stake, nipple, and Easy Loc hose fittings included. A convenient all-in-one kit for in-line sprinkler setups.
  • Irrigation Timers & Controllers: Automate your sled base system with a hose-end or inline battery timer. Connect at the faucet or upstream of the sled series for hands-free watering.
  • Pressure Regulators: Protect your sprinkler heads and ensure uniform coverage if your supply pressure exceeds the recommended operating range of your attached sprinkler.
  • Irrigation Filters: A simple inline filter upstream of your sled base system helps prevent debris from clogging sprinkler nozzles.
  • Garden Hoses: Connect sled bases in series or supply water from your faucet using a standard garden hose. The FHT/MHT threading is compatible with all standard garden hoses.
