Description

The Serious Grower's Raised Bed. Six and a Half Feet of Deep, Productive Growing Space — Built to Last 20+ Years.

The GardenBee Metal Raised Garden Bed — 17" High × 78" Long × 24" Wide is the go-to rectangular raised bed for home gardeners who want maximum growing capacity in a classic row layout. At 78" long and 24" wide, this bed gives you over 13 square feet of productive growing space that's reachable from both sides without ever stepping into the bed — and at 17" tall, the deep soil profile supports everything from shallow-rooted lettuces to deep-rooted tomatoes, root vegetables, and sprawling squash. Whether you're placing it along a fence line, on a patio, or as the centerpiece of a backyard kitchen garden, this is a bed built to produce season after season.

Constructed from ZAM (Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium) coated steel with 0.6mm thick panels, this raised bed is engineered to withstand rain, snow, and extreme temperatures without rusting, rotting, or warping — giving it a lifespan of 20+ years and making it 5 times more durable than plastic or wood alternatives. The food-grade 304 stainless steel hardware keeps every fastener safe for growing edibles, while the built-in drainage system prevents waterlogging and promotes healthy root development by keeping soil consistently moist — never saturated. Made from 100% recycled metal, it assembles quickly using pre-drilled holes with no special tools required. Available in green, grey, and white and backed by a 2-year warranty, this is the rectangular raised bed DripWorks gardeners rely on year after year. Pair it with a DripWorks garden bed drip irrigation kit and the complete GardenBee tool line for a fully outfitted growing system from day one.

Why Choose This GardenBee Rectangular Metal Raised Bed?
  • 78"×24" Rectangle — The Classic Row Garden Format: The long, narrow rectangular shape is ideal for planting in rows, running drip tape or drip line down the center of the bed, and organizing succession plantings by crop type. At 24" wide, the entire bed is within arm's reach from either side — no stepping in, no compacting your soil.
  • 17" Depth for Any Crop: Deep enough for root vegetables (carrots, beets, parsnips), sprawling crops (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers), and everything in between. Most competing raised beds max out at 10–12" — this bed's 17" depth is a meaningful difference for serious food production.
  • ZAM-Coated Steel — Rust-Proof & Weather-Resistant: The Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium triple-layer coating resists corrosion far beyond standard galvanized steel, untreated wood, or plastic — engineered to withstand rain, snow, UV exposure, and extreme temperatures without degrading.
  • Built-In Drainage System: Excess water drains efficiently through the base, preventing waterlogging that causes root rot and soil compaction. The drainage system promotes the ideal balance of moisture and aeration that healthy plant roots need — especially important when used with drip irrigation.
  • Food-Grade 304 Stainless Steel Hardware: Every bolt, nut, and washer is food-safe stainless steel — no zinc-leaching hardware near your vegetables, herbs, or fruits.
  • 100% Recycled Metal Construction: Built from fully recycled steel for gardeners who care about both productivity and sustainability.
  • Tool-Free Assembly with Pre-Drilled Holes: The pre-drilled panels align and bolt together without any special tools. Most gardeners have this bed assembled and ready to fill in under an hour.
  • Three Color Options: Green, grey, and white — designed to complement patios, fences, decks, and backyard garden spaces of every style.

Assembly & Setup Guide

This bed goes together quickly and is ready to plant within a single afternoon. Here's the full setup workflow:

Step 1: Choose Your Location
Select a flat surface that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. The 78"×24" footprint fits naturally along a fence, deck edge, or garden wall, or can stand freely in a yard or on a patio. The bed has no solid bottom panel, so it can be placed directly on grass, gravel, or compacted soil — the 17" walls provide more than enough depth to prevent grass competition with your crops.

Step 2: Assemble the Panels
Pre-drilled holes in the steel panels align and connect with the included hardware — no special tools required. Work your way around the perimeter, attaching panels panel by panel until the rectangular frame is complete. Most gardeners finish assembly in well under an hour. The rust-proof hardware is food-safe throughout, and panels are engineered to lock rigidly without flexing under the weight of filled soil.

Step 3: Fill with a Quality Soil Mix
Fill with a blend of high-quality topsoil, compost, and organic matter. Avoid using straight native garden soil in a raised bed — it compacts over time and limits the drainage and aeration that make raised beds so productive. A good starting mix: 60% topsoil, 30% compost, 10% perlite or coarse sand. Use the GardenBee Stainless Steel Scoop to measure and distribute compost and amendments evenly before mixing.

Step 4: Prep the Surface & Plant
Use the GardenBee Stainless Steel Rake to level the soil surface and break up any clods. Then use the GardenBee Stainless Steel Dibbler or Aluminum Dibbler to create uniform seed holes down the length of the bed. Transplant seedlings with the GardenBee Transplanter for precise, damage-free root placement.

Step 5: Set Up Irrigation
The 78" length is perfectly suited to a single run of drip tape or drip line down the center of the bed. Pair with a DripWorks garden bed drip irrigation kit and a timer so your bed waters itself automatically — eliminating hand-watering while delivering moisture directly to the root zone and reducing foliar disease from overhead watering.

✔ What Grows Best in a 17"×78"×24" Rectangular Metal Raised Bed?

The long rectangular shape and 17" soil depth make this bed one of the most versatile formats available. Here's what thrives inside it:

  • Row Vegetables: Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and cucumbers planted in a single row down the 78" length — staked or caged — make excellent use of the long growing corridor while staying accessible from both sides.
  • Succession Salad Greens: Plant the 78" length in thirds — staggered by two weeks — for continuous harvests of lettuce, spinach, arugula, and mixed greens from early spring through late fall.
  • Root Vegetables: Carrots, beets, radishes, and parsnips love the 17" of deep, loose, well-drained soil this bed provides. Row planting down the length maximizes yield per square foot.
  • Herbs & Culinary Gardens: Dedicate this bed to a full culinary herb garden — basil, parsley, cilantro, thyme, oregano, chives, and rosemary — and keep it close to the kitchen door for easy harvest while cooking.
  • Cut Flower Rows: Plant sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, and cosmos in rows for a season-long cutting garden that delivers armloads of fresh flowers throughout summer and fall.
