The DB6R2 sits flush with your lawn or landscape, collects water through a top grate, holds it briefly in the basin, and then channels it through underground pipe to a safe discharge point such as a pop-up relief valve, dry well, or storm drain.

What is the difference between the DB6R1 and DB6R2?
The primary difference is the number of outlets. The DB6R1 has one (1) universal side outlet, while the DB6R2 has two (2) universal side outlets. Both share the same 6" round basin dimensions, 0.80-gallon total capacity, 0.20-gallon sump capacity, and compatible grate options. The DB6R2 is the better choice when you need to route water in two directions from a single collection point, or when you want a secondary outlet for overflow capacity.

What pipe sizes are compatible with the DB6R2 outlets?
The two universal outlets on the DB6R2 accept 3" or 4" Sewer and Drain Pipe (ASTM D2729), 3" or 4" Corrugated Pipe, and 3" or 4" Triple Wall Pipe. These are the most common drainage pipe types used in residential and commercial applications. If you only need one outlet, simply leave the second outlet capped or plugged.

What grates fit this basin?
The DB6R2 accepts three grate families: the 6" Round Flat Grate (DG6RFG in green, DG6RFB in black — load rated for vehicles at low speeds when encased in concrete), the 6" Round Atrium Grate (DG6RAG / DG6RAB — domed style that resists clogging from leaf debris, rated up to 36 GPM), and the 7" Universal Square Flat Grate (DG7USG / DG7USB — square profile that blends well with paver and hardscape applications). All grates are made from UV-stabilized HDPE.

What does the sump do and why does it matter?
The sump is a recessed cavity at the bottom of the basin — in the DB6R2, it holds 0.20 gallons. Sediment, sand, leaves, and other fine debris that wash into the basin settle to the bottom of the sump rather than traveling into your outlet pipes. This significantly reduces the frequency of clogs in downstream drainage pipe, especially in landscapes where leaf debris or sandy soils are common. Periodic cleaning of the sump (lifting the grate and removing settled debris) is recommended as part of routine drainage maintenance.

Can I extend the height of the basin if I need to install it deeper?
Yes. To extend the height of the DB6R2, use a standard 6" PVC Pipe (ASTM D2729 or ASTM D3034, SDR 35) as a riser. This is a cost-effective and widely available solution that doesn't require a proprietary extension piece. Simply cut the pipe to the needed length and insert it into the top of the basin to bring the grate to grade.

Where should I install a catch basin in my yard?
The most effective placement for a catch basin is at the lowest point of a problem area — wherever water naturally pools after rain or irrigation. Common installation locations include the low end of a sloped lawn, at the base of a downspout extension, in areas where turf stays soggy, alongside driveways and walkways, and at the transition between a lawn and a hardscape like a patio or driveway. For best results, install the basin so the top of the grate sits flush with or just slightly below grade to allow surface water to flow freely into the drain.

Is this catch basin compatible with a pop-up relief valve?
