What pipe types does this grate fit?
The DG6RFG is designed with three stepped diameters for direct attachment to 6" Sewer & Drain Pipe (ASTM D2729), 6" Sewer Pipe (ASTM D3034, SDR 35), 6" Corrugated Pipe, and 6" S&D Fittings (SDR 35). It is also directly compatible with the Rain Bird DB6R1 and DB6R2 6" Round Catch Basins. No additional adapter is required for these pipe types.

Is this grate safe for foot traffic and vehicles?
Yes. The DG6RFG has a textured anti-skid surface rated for pedestrian traffic and is also load-rated for autos and light trucks traveling at speeds less than 20 mph, with a maximum load of 1,000 lbs. This rating assumes the basin is fully encased in concrete and weight is uniformly distributed across the entire grate surface.

Is this grate ADA compliant?
Yes. The flat grate profile and 5/16" open slot width meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements for accessibility, making it suitable for installation in walkways, public access areas, and other pedestrian zones.

Do I need a catch basin, or can I connect directly to pipe?
Both options are available. This grate is designed for direct attachment to 6" drainage pipe where a catch basin is not appropriate or feasible — for example, at the end of a downspout drain run or at a low spot where water concentrates. If you need a sump to collect sediment and debris before it enters your pipe, pair this grate with the Rain Bird DB6R1 6" Round Catch Basin for a complete solution.

What is the maximum flow rate this grate can handle?
The DG6RFG is rated for a maximum flow of 16 GPM with an open surface area of 13 sq in and a 5/16" slot width. This is appropriate for typical residential surface drainage applications. If your application requires higher flow, consider moving to a square basin and grate system available in the Rain Bird drainage line (e.g., 12" or 18" square flat grates rated up to 70–120 GPM).

Will this grate hold up in direct sunlight?
Yes. The DG6RFG is manufactured with a UV inhibitor integrated into the HDPE material to protect against sun-related degradation, making it suitable for installation in full-sun environments including California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and other high-UV regions.

Is there a black color option available?
Yes. Rain Bird offers this same grate in black (model DG6RFB) for installations where a green lawn-blending color is not preferred. Contact DripWorks for availability.

What is the difference between a Flat Grate and an Atrium Grate?
A Flat Grate (like the DG6RFG) sits flush with the ground surface and is designed for use in traffic and pedestrian areas. It allows surface water to flow through its slots into the pipe or basin below. An Atrium Grate has a raised dome or dome-like profile that allows water to enter from the sides as well as the top — it is better suited for locations where standing water or debris could overwhelm a flat surface entry point, such as at downspout terminations or low-lying landscape beds.
