What is a drainage catch basin and how does it work?
A catch basin is an in-ground box installed at a low point in a landscape where water tends to collect. The grate on top allows surface water to flow in while blocking larger debris. Inside the basin, a built-in sump allows sediment and fine particles to settle to the bottom before water flows out through the outlet pipe. This helps protect your downstream drainage pipes from clogging. The DB6R1 connects to standard 3" or 4" drain pipe, directing collected water safely away from your lawn, foundation, or garden.

What grates are compatible with the DB6R1?
This basin accepts the 6" Round Flat Grate (available in green – DG6RFG or black – DG6RFB), the 6" Round Atrium Grate (DG6RAG or DG6RAB), and the 7" Universal Square Grate (DG7USG or DG7USB). Grates are sold separately. The flat grates are ADA compliant and load-rated for autos and light trucks at speeds under 20 mph when the basin is encased in concrete.

What pipe sizes connect to the DB6R1 outlet?
The DB6R1 has one universal outlet compatible with 3" or 4" Sewer & Drain Pipe (ASTM D2729), 3" or 4" Corrugated Pipe, and 3" or 4" Triple Wall Pipe. No separate adapter is needed for the round basin — the outlet is pre-designed to accept these standard pipe sizes directly.

How do I extend the depth of the basin?
To increase the basin's installation depth, use a standard 6" PVC pipe (conforming to ASTM D2729 and ASTM D3034, SDR 35) as a riser placed between the basin body and the grate. This is useful when your installation grade requires the grate to sit higher than the basin body's natural height.

What is the difference between the DB6R1 and the DB6R2?
The only difference is the number of outlets. The DB6R1 has one universal outlet, suitable for a single pipe run. The DB6R2 has two universal outlets, allowing you to route water to two separate discharge pipes — useful when two directions of drainage are needed from a single collection point. Both share the same 6" round basin body, grate compatibility, capacity (0.80 gal), and sump (0.20 gal).

Can I use this basin in a driveway or high-traffic area?
The basin body itself is not load-rated for vehicular traffic. If you need a vehicle-rated installation, the basin should be encased in concrete. When properly encased in concrete, the compatible 6" Round Flat Grates (DG6RFG / DG6RFB) are rated for autos and light trucks at speeds under 20 mph, with a maximum load rating of 1,000 lbs (per Rain Bird's Drainage Technical Specifications). Always verify local code requirements for driveways and paved areas.

Do I need a larger basin for a bigger area?
The DB6R1 has a total capacity of 0.80 gallons and is best suited for residential applications — collecting runoff from a single downspout, a small low spot, or a confined patio area.
