Description

Secure Your Water Source. Leak-Free Tank Connections.

The Poly Tank Adapter (also known as a bulkhead fitting) is the essential component for turning any plastic drum, tank, or rain barrel into a functional water reservoir. By creating a watertight, threaded outlet at the bottom of your container, this adapter allows you to easily connect shut-off valves, spigots, or supply lines to your gravity-feed system.

Manufactured from high-density polypropylene with a heavy-duty EPDM gasket, this fitting withstands exposure to harsh weather and agricultural chemicals. It is one of the most critical irrigation fittings for rainwater harvesting setups, allowing you to transition from a static storage tank to standard pipe threads without leaks or cracks.

Why Choose This Bulkhead Fitting?
  • Heavy-Duty Seal: Features a thick EPDM gasket that compresses against the tank wall to ensure a leak-proof seal, even on slightly curved surfaces.
  • Standard Threading: The internal Female Pipe Thread (FPT) accepts any standard Male Pipe Thread (MPT) PVC fitting, nipple, or faucet.
  • Reverse Thread Locking Nut: The external locking nut tightens securely against the tank wall (left-hand thread on some models, check specific unit) to prevent loosening over time.
  • Versatile Applications: Ideal for rain barrels, cisterns, hydroponic reservoirs, and chemical tanks.
  • Chemical Resistance: Polypropylene construction resists corrosion from fertilizers, acids, and UV radiation.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Proper installation is critical to prevent leaks.

Step 1: Drill the Hole
Using a hole saw, drill the appropriate size hole near the bottom of your tank or barrel. Ensure the surface is clean and deburred.

Step 2: Insert the Fitting
Place the gasket on the body of the fitting. From the inside of the tank, push the threaded body through the hole. The gasket must be on the inside against the water.

Step 3: Tighten the Nut
Thread the locking nut onto the protruding threads on the outside of the tank. Hand-tighten firmly, then give it another partial turn with a wrench. Do not overtighten.

Step 4: Connect Your Valve
Wrap thread seal tape around your spigot or male adapter and screw it into the internal threads of the bulkhead fitting.

✔ Compatibility Check

Ensure this adapter fits your plan:

  • Internal Threads: Female Pipe Thread (FPT). Compatible with standard PVC Male Adapters, Nipples, and Hose Bibbs.
  • External Threads: These are coarse buttress threads for the locking nut ONLY. They do NOT accept standard pipe fittings.
  • Tank Wall Thickness: Best suited for walls up to 1/2" thick (standard drums and poly tanks).

Complete Your System

Finish your tank setup with these recommended components:

  • Thread Seal Tape: Required for a watertight seal on the internal threaded connection.
  • PVC Male Adapter: To convert the tank outlet to a slip connection for PVC pipe.
  • Filter: Essential for gravity systems to prevent tank debris from clogging your emitters.
  • PVC Ball Valve: Install immediately after the adapter for system shut-off.
