Description

The Simplest Way to Build a Portable, In-Line Sprinkler Array

The Metal Tee Stake Assembly (POMELT) is a heavy-duty zinc stake designed to mount a mini-sprinkler or rotary nozzle directly in-line with your 1/2" poly tubing or garden hose. It solves a common problem in garden and agricultural irrigation: how do you get a sprinkler head precisely where you need it, without burying pipe or running a permanent system? This assembly lets you do exactly that — stake it into the ground, hook up your hose or mainline tubing, and you're watering.

The stake's 1/2" male pipe thread (MPT) outlet on top accepts any sprinkler with a 1/2" female pipe thread (FPT) inlet, including the Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler (MGDR) and Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers (which thread directly on without an adapter). To use K-Rain or MP Rotator nozzles — which have fine threads — simply add the 1/2" FPT Sprinkler Adapter (POPNA). For sprinklers with a 1/2" MPT inlet (like the Adjustable Gear Drive), use a 1/2" FPT Coupler (P12TC) between the stake and the sprinkler head.

What makes this assembly especially versatile is its in-line design. The included 1/2" Easy Loc male and female hose fittings (ELMH & ELFH) let you daisy-chain multiple stakes together using lengths of 1/2" poly mainline tubing, creating a simple, movable sprinkler array for orchards, vegetable rows, nurseries, or anywhere you need targeted overhead coverage. Remove the Easy Loc ends and connect directly via garden hose for even more flexibility. The included hose cap seals off the outlet of the last stake in a series. Always wrap the 1/2" nipple threads with thread sealant tape (PCTEF) to ensure a watertight seal.

If you need a non-staked base option for use on hard surfaces or in containers, consider the Weighted Sled Base, which offers the same in-line compatibility with the Gear Drive and Mini-Wobbler sprinklers.

How to Assemble & Use the POMELT

Setting Up a Single or End-of-Line Stake

  1. Thread the included 1/2" x 2" MPT nipple (P122N) into the top of the zinc stake. Wrap 3–4 layers of thread sealant tape (PCTEF) around the nipple threads first to ensure a watertight seal.
  2. Attach your sprinkler head to the top of the nipple. Use the POPNA adapter for K-Rain and MP Rotator nozzles, or a P12TC FPT coupler for the Adjustable Gear Drive and Mini-Wobbler sprinklers (which have MPT inlets).
  3. Connect your garden hose or 1/2" mainline tubing to the ELFH inlet fitting on the side of the stake.
  4. Thread the included hose end cap onto the ELMH outlet to seal off the end of the line.
  5. Push the stake firmly into the ground, turn on the water, and verify the connection is leak-free.

Setting Up Multiple Stakes In-Line

  1. Set up your first stake as described above, but do not cap the ELMH outlet.
  2. Cut a length of 1/2" poly mainline tubing to span the distance between the first and second stake positions.
  3. Push one end of the tubing onto the ELMH outlet of the first stake and the other end into the ELFH inlet of the next stake.
  4. Repeat for as many stakes as needed. Cap the ELMH outlet on the last stake in the series with the included hose end cap.
  5. Connect your water source (hose or mainline) to the ELFH inlet of the first stake.

Pro Tip: To use a garden hose to connect between stakes instead of poly tubing, simply remove the Easy Loc ends from the stake bodies. The hose thread connections on the ELMH and ELFH allow direct garden hose hookup without adapters.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What sprinklers work directly with this stake without any adapter?
The Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler (MGDR) and Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers (MWLB) both connect to the stake using a 1/2" FPT Coupler (P12TC), since they have MPT inlets and the stake's top also has MPT threads. K-Rain rotators and MP Rotators require the separate POPNA adapter due to their fine-thread inlets.

Can I use this with a standard garden hose?
Yes. Remove the Easy Loc push-fit ends (ELMH and ELFH) from the stake and connect your garden hose directly to the hose thread fittings on the stake body. This makes it easy to use without any poly tubing or drip system — just a hose bib and a hose.

How many stakes can I run in series?
This depends on your water pressure and the flow rate of the sprinkler heads you're using. As you add more stakes in series, pressure drops along the line. For best results, keep the run reasonably short and ensure your inlet pressure is sufficient to maintain consistent flow at each head. If you're running several heads, consider adding a pressure regulator at the source if incoming pressure is high.

Why do I need thread sealant tape on the nipple?
The 1/2" MPT nipple connects metal-to-metal or metal-to-plastic threads. Without thread sealant tape (PCTEF), these joints are prone to slow leaks. Applying 3–4 wraps clockwise around the male threads before assembly ensures a watertight, long-lasting connection.

What is the difference between this and the Metal Support Stake (MGDSM)?
The Metal Support Stake (MGDSM) is the bare stake body — sold individually with a hose thread inlet and outlet, but without the nipple or Easy Loc fittings. The POMELT assembly includes all the parts (nipple, Easy Loc ends, and cap) needed for a complete, ready-to-use installation. The MGDSM is also the stake component included inside the POMELT kit.

Is there a base option that doesn't require staking into the ground?
Yes — the Weighted Sled Base provides a stable, portable platform for the Adjustable Gear Drive and Mini-Wobbler sprinklers on hard surfaces or container gardens, using the same garden hose in-line hookup design.

Does the Prop 65 warning affect how I should use this product?
This product contains zinc hardware that may expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects. Handle with normal care — wash hands after installation — and keep out of reach of children. For more information, visit P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Can I automate a system built with these stakes?
Yes. Connect the inlet of your first stake to a hose-thread-compatible irrigation timer on your hose bib, and the system will run automatically on your schedule. This is a great entry-level automation option for raised beds, nurseries, and orchard blocks.

✔ Compatibility Check

Before you connect, verify the following:

  • Sprinkler Thread Type: The stake has a 1/2" MPT outlet on top. Sprinklers with FPT inlets (like the Gear Drive and Mini-Wobbler) need a P12TC coupler; K-Rain and MP Rotators need the POPNA adapter.
  • Tubing Size: The Easy Loc fittings are sized for standard 1/2" poly tubing (0.700" OD). Do not use IPS or Blu-Lock tubing with these fittings.
  • Garden Hose Use: To connect via garden hose, remove the Easy Loc push-fit fittings — the underlying hose threads accept standard garden hose connections.
  • Thread Sealant: Always use Teflon / thread sealant tape (PCTEF) on the included nipple before attaching a sprinkler head to prevent leaks at the connection point.
  • Pressure: This stake and its Easy Loc fittings are designed for low-pressure above-ground drip applications. If your supply pressure is above 30 PSI, consider installing a pressure regulator at the hose bib.

Complete Your Sprinkler Setup

Pair the POMELT stake assembly with these essential components for a fully functional system:

  • Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler (MGDR): A whisper-quiet, 1/2" MPT gear-drive sprinkler with easy slide distance control. Compatible with the POMELT stake using a P12TC coupler.
  • Mini-Wobbler Sprinklers: Low-angle, large-droplet mini-sprinklers ideal for ground cover, flower beds, and frost protection. Connects to the POMELT with a P12TC coupler.
  • K-Rain Rotary Nozzles (RN100, RN200, RN300): Efficient rotary nozzles with 80°–360° adjustable arc and matched precipitation. Requires the POPNA adapter to mount on the POMELT stake.
  • 1/2" FPT Sprinkler Adapter (POPNA): Required adapter for connecting K-Rain or MP Rotator nozzles to the 1/2" MPT outlet on the stake.
  • 1/2" Polyethylene Mainline Tubing: Connect multiple POMELT stakes in series by running lengths of 1/2" poly tubing between them.
  • Thread Sealant Tape (PCTEF): Wrap the nipple threads before assembly for a leak-free connection between the stake and sprinkler head.
  • Irrigation Timers: Automate your watering by connecting a hose-thread timer to your hose bib — the whole stake array runs on schedule without manual intervention.
  • Pressure Regulators: Protect the system and sprinkler heads if your supply pressure exceeds 30 PSI.
  • Weighted Sled Base: An alternative to the staked design — ideal for hard surfaces, patios, or large containers where driving a stake into the ground isn't practical.
