Description

Pressure-Regulated. Leak-Free. Ready for Efficient Lawn Irrigation.

The K-Rain Pro-S 4" Pop-Up Spray Body with Check Valve and PR30 — item 78004-CV-PR30 — is a precision-engineered spray head built for residential and light commercial turf irrigation where water efficiency, consistent pressure, and leak prevention are top priorities. This model combines two critical features factory-installed in the stem: a 30 PSI in-stem pressure regulator and an in-stem check valve — delivering regulated, mist-free coverage while preventing low-head drainage after each watering cycle.

The heart of the Pro-S is its co-molded wiper seal — a pressure-activated, UV-inhibited seal that ensures a leak-free, full pop-up even under low-pressure conditions. The seal's cartridge design allows for easy field removal and cleaning, and its carefully selected material resists microbial degradation and stick-ups over years of service. A ratcheting riser enables quick, tool-free spray pattern alignment after installation, while the heavy-duty stainless steel retraction spring — the strongest in the industry — guarantees positive, complete retraction in all soil conditions, including heavy clay. The body ships with a pre-installed flush cap so you can pressurize and purge the lateral line before nozzle installation, keeping debris out of your nozzles from day one.

The Pro-S body accepts all standard female-threaded nozzles — fixed-pattern, adjustable, and rotary — sold separately. It is also a direct drop-in replacement for Rain Bird® 1800 Series spray body cans, making retrofit upgrades fast and straightforward. All pressure-regulated Pro-S models are EPA WaterSense® certified, independently verified to meet standards for water efficiency and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does this spray body come with a nozzle?
No — the 78004-CV-PR30 ships with a pre-installed flush cap, not a spray nozzle. The flush cap lets you pressurize and purge the lateral pipe before installing your nozzle, protecting it from debris. You will need to purchase a compatible female-threaded nozzle separately. The Pro-S body accepts all standard female-threaded nozzles, including fixed-pattern, adjustable, and rotary styles.

What does the 30 PSI pressure regulator do, and why does it matter?
The factory-preset in-stem pressure regulator reduces incoming supply pressure to a constant 30 PSI at the nozzle, regardless of inlet pressure (up to 110 PSI). Most spray nozzles are engineered to perform optimally at 30 PSI. Excess pressure causes misting, fogging, and wind drift — all of which waste water and create uneven coverage. The built-in regulator eliminates these problems and is the primary reason this model carries EPA WaterSense® certification.

What is the check valve for, and do I really need it?
The in-stem check valve prevents low-head drainage — the unwanted draining of water from the lowest spray heads in a zone after the control valve shuts off. This is a very common problem on sloped or uneven terrain and leads to soggy low spots, runoff waste, and erosion near head locations. The Pro-S check valve seals against up to 10 feet (3 m) of head pressure. If your system is on flat ground with no elevation changes, a standard body without a check valve may suffice — but on any sloped site, this feature pays for itself immediately.

Is this a direct replacement for a Rain Bird 1800 Series spray body?
Yes. The K-Rain Pro-S riser assembly is dimensionally compatible with Rain Bird® 1800 Series spray body cans. The assembly drops directly into an existing 1800 can, making it an easy upgrade or replacement option for existing systems without the need for excavation or new body installation.

What is the maximum inlet pressure this body can handle?
The Pro-S spray body is rated for inlet pressures up to 110 PSI — the highest maximum pressure rating in the industry for this class of spray body. The in-stem regulator handles the pressure reduction internally, so even in high-pressure municipal systems, the nozzle always sees a consistent 30 PSI.

What is the ratcheting riser feature?
The ratcheting riser allows you to rotate the nozzle to precisely align the spray pattern after the body is installed in the ground — no tools required. This is particularly useful when using fixed-arc nozzles that need to be directed toward a specific turf zone or away from hardscape and walkways.

Is this compatible with a smart irrigation controller?
Yes. The Pro-S is a standard spray body that works with any solenoid valve and any irrigation controller, including smart WiFi-enabled systems. DripWorks carries a full range of compatible timers and controllers.

✔ Compatibility Check

Before you install, verify the following:

  • Nozzle Not Included: This body ships with a flush cap only. A compatible female-threaded nozzle must be purchased separately. Browse DripWorks' full selection of spray nozzles and rotary nozzles.
  • Regulated Output Pressure: The in-stem regulator outputs 30 PSI at the nozzle. Select nozzles rated for 30 PSI operation for best performance and matched precipitation rates.
  • Pop-Up Height: This is a 4" pop-up, suited for standard lawn turf. For taller ground cover, consider a 6" pop-up model.
  • Retrofit Installs: Riser assembly fits directly into Rain Bird® 1800 Series spray body cans — no new can required for most retrofits.
  • Slopes / Low-Head Drainage: The built-in check valve holds up to 10 ft of head pressure — ideal for sloped terrain and hillside irrigation zones.

Complete Your Irrigation System

Pair your K-Rain Pro-S spray bodies with these essential components for a fully functional, water-efficient system:

  • Spray & Rotary Nozzles: Fixed-pattern, adjustable, and rotary nozzles compatible with the Pro-S body's standard female thread — required for operation, sold separately.
  • Irrigation Timers & Controllers: Battery-operated or AC-powered controllers — including smart WiFi-enabled models — to automate your watering zones.
  • Irrigation Valves: Zone control solenoid valves to operate each spray circuit independently from your controller.
  • Funny Pipe & Swing Joints: Flexible swing joint connections allow heads to flex under mower impact without breaking the lateral pipe fitting.
  • Sprinkler Tools: Specialty tools for nozzle installation and removal, head pulling, and arc adjustment during installation and maintenance.
