Description

Adapt and Reduce. All in One Fitting.

The Dura Schedule 40 Reducing Male Adapter is a dual-purpose fitting designed to transition from PVC pipe to a threaded connection while simultaneously changing the line size. With a solvent weld socket (Slip) on one end and Male Pipe Threads (MPT) on the other, this adapter is ideal for connecting Schedule 40 PVC pipe to valves, pumps, or sprinkler heads that have a different thread size than your main pipe run.

By combining a reducer and an adapter into a single unit, you eliminate the need for multiple irrigation fittings, reducing the risk of leaks and keeping your system compact. Whether you are stepping down from a 3/4" pipe to a 1/2" valve, or adapting a 1/2" line to a 3/4" component, this fitting provides a professional, high-pressure seal.

Why Choose Dura Male Adapters?
  • Efficiency: Performs two functions (reducing and adapting) in one low-profile part, saving space and money.
  • Precision Threads: Cleanly molded NPT threads ensure a tight engagement with female threaded components.
  • Heavy Duty: Manufactured from virgin PVC resin to meet ASTM D-2466 standards for pressure and impact resistance.
  • Chemical Resistance: Impervious to corrosion, making it suitable for both residential watering and agricultural fertigation systems.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Install carefully to ensure a leak-proof transition.

Step 1: Solvent Weld the Slip Side
Clean and prime the PVC pipe and the adapter's socket using Purple Primer. Apply PVC Glue, insert the pipe fully, and hold for 30 seconds.

Step 2: Prepare the Threads
Wrap the Male Pipe Threads (MPT) of the adapter with 3-5 layers of thread seal tape. Wrap clockwise to prevent unraveling.

Step 3: Connect
Screw the adapter into the female threaded component (valve, filter, or fitting) by hand until snug.

Step 4: Tighten
Use a wrench to tighten one-half to one full turn past hand tight. Do not overtighten, especially if connecting to plastic female threads, as this may cause cracking.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your connection types:

  • Slip End: Fits OVER standard PVC pipe. (e.g., 3/4" Slip fits over 3/4" Pipe).
  • MPT End: Screws INTO a Female Pipe Thread (FPT) fitting.
  • Reduction: Ensure you know which side is smaller. A "3/4 x 1/2 Adapter" usually means a 3/4" Slip and 1/2" Thread.

Complete Your System

Get the right tools and supplies for the job:

  • PVC Primer: Essential for preparing the pipe surface for a strong weld.
  • PVC Glue: The solvent cement required to bond the pipe to the adapter.
  • Pipe Cutters: Ensure clean, square cuts with our 1", 1-1/2", 2", or Fiskars cutters.
  • Thread Seal Tape: Mandatory for sealing the threaded connection.
