Description

A Heavy-Duty Ground Spike for Portable Sprinkler Systems

The Orbit Metal Support Stake (Model 58034N) is a durable, zinc-construction ground spike designed to anchor portable sprinkler heads securely in place during watering. At 8 inches tall, this stake inserts easily into any soil or turf — simply step on it to drive it in — and holds your sprinkler upright without tipping or shifting, even during high-pressure operation.

The top of the stake features 1/2" female pipe threads (FPT), making it directly compatible with the Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler and Senninger Mini Wobbler Sprinklers, as well as any other sprinkler head with a 1/2" male pipe thread (MPT) inlet. With the right adapter, it can also be used with K-Rain Rotators and MP Rotators.

What sets this stake apart is its flow-through design: the female hose thread (FHT) inlet and male hose thread (MHT) outlet allow multiple stakes to be connected in series using a standard 3/4" garden hose or mainline tubing, expanding your watering coverage across a larger area with a single hose connection. This makes the Metal Support Stake an ideal solution for garden beds, orchards, nurseries, and any application where flexible, portable overhead irrigation is needed.

Need a wider, flat-footed base instead of a spike? Check out the Weighted Sled Base, which offers the same 1/2" FPT top and series-connection capability in a low-profile, weighted form factor — great for hard surfaces or compacted ground.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What sprinklers are compatible with this stake?
Any sprinkler head with a 1/2" male pipe thread (MPT) inlet will thread directly onto the top of this stake. This includes the Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler and the Senninger Mini Wobblers. With an appropriate adapter, it can also support K-Rain Rotators and MP Rotators. Most 1/2" MPT metal or plastic sprinkler heads will work.

How does the flow-through design work?
The stake has a 3/4" female hose thread (FHT) inlet on one side and a 3/4" male hose thread (MHT) outlet on the other. Water flows in through your garden hose or mainline, up through the stake to the sprinkler head above, and the excess flow passes through the outlet to the next stake in line. This lets you daisy-chain multiple stakes and sprinklers across a large area using a single hose connection, without requiring a separate supply line to each head.

How do I install the stake?
Simply push or step the pointed end of the stake into the soil at your desired sprinkler location. No tools are required. The zinc spike is designed to penetrate most soils and turf easily, and the sturdy construction keeps it firmly in place during operation. Once positioned, thread your sprinkler head onto the 1/2" FPT top, connect your garden hose or mainline to the FHT inlet, and you're ready to water.

Can I connect multiple stakes in a row?
Yes — this is one of the most practical features of the Metal Support Stake. Connect a garden hose to the FHT inlet of the first stake, then use another hose or mainline segment to connect the MHT outlet of the first stake to the FHT inlet of the next stake. Repeat as needed to cover your entire watering area. The number of stakes you can run in series will depend on your available water pressure and the flow rate of the sprinkler heads used.

What is the difference between the Metal Support Stake and the Weighted Sled Base?
Both accept 1/2" MPT sprinklers and offer the same flow-through series connection capability. The Metal Support Stake uses a pointed spike to anchor into soil or turf — ideal for use in garden beds, lawns, and open ground. The Weighted Sled Base uses a flat, weighted foot that sits on the surface — better suited for hard surfaces, gravel, or situations where driving a spike into the ground is not practical.

Is there a similar option that connects to mainline tubing instead of a garden hose?
Yes. The Metal Tee Stake Assembly is a heavy-duty zinc stake with removable 1/2" Easy Loc ends, allowing it to be connected in series using 1/2" poly mainline tubing rather than a garden hose. It also features 1/2" MPT threads on top to accept the same sprinkler heads.

Why is this product subject to a California Prop 65 warning?
This product contains zinc components that may include trace amounts of lead, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. This warning is required by California law for products sold in or shipped to California. For more information, visit P65Warnings.ca.gov.

✔ Compatibility Check

Before you order, verify the following:

  • Sprinkler Thread Size: The top of this stake is 1/2" FPT (Female Pipe Thread). Your sprinkler head must have a 1/2" MPT (Male Pipe Thread) inlet to connect directly. This fits the Adjustable Gear Drive and Mini Wobblers natively.
  • Hose Connection: The inlet is a standard 3/4" female hose thread (FHT) — compatible with any standard garden hose. No special fittings are needed to connect your hose directly to the stake.
  • Soil Type: This stake is designed for use in standard soil or turf. For use on hard or compacted ground, consider the Weighted Sled Base instead.
  • Series Connections: When running multiple stakes in series, ensure your water pressure is sufficient to deliver adequate flow to all heads on the line. Use a pressure gauge to verify pressure at the end of the line if needed.

Complete Your Portable Sprinkler Setup

Pair the Metal Support Stake with these compatible products for a fully functional portable irrigation system:

  • Adjustable Gear Drive Sprinkler: A whisper-quiet, gear-driven sprinkler with 1/2" MPT threads — threads directly onto this stake for quiet, efficient coverage.
  • Senninger Mini Wobbler Sprinklers: Low-pressure, large-droplet sprinklers with 1/2" MPT threads — ideal for gentle, wind-resistant watering of garden beds and ground cover.
  • Weighted Sled Base: The flat-footed alternative to this spike — same 1/2" FPT top and series connection capability, for use on hard or compacted surfaces.
  • Metal Tee Stake Assembly: A heavy-duty zinc stake with Easy Loc ends for connecting sprinklers directly into 1/2" poly mainline tubing — great for permanent or semi-permanent systems.
  • Irrigation Timers: Automate your watering schedule with a battery-operated hose-end timer connected at the faucet or mainline supply.
  • Irrigation Filters: Protect sprinkler heads from clogging by filtering debris from your water supply before it reaches the heads.
