The Male Hose x 1/2" Female Pipe Elbow with Shutoff (SKU: RLSO) is one of DripWorks' most practical sprinkler-to-drip conversion fittings. The 1/2" Female Pipe Thread (FPT) inlet threads directly onto any existing 1/2" Male Pipe Thread (MPT) sprinkler riser, while the Male Hose Thread (MHT) outlet converts that riser into a standard hose-type connection — just like a faucet — so you can attach a drip system directly. Use a female hose beginning (1/2" or 3/4") to connect mainline tubing to the MHT outlet, or add a hose-threaded filter if your water source carries sediment. The built-in shutoff valve gives you independent on/off control at each individual riser without shutting off the entire zone valve.

If your riser is 3/4" MPT rather than 1/2", a threaded reducing coupler and 1/2" nipple can be used to step it down to 1/2" before threading on this fitting. What does this fitting do?
It converts a 1/2" MPT sprinkler riser into a Male Hose Thread (MHT) outlet, letting you connect a drip system to an existing in-ground sprinkler riser. The 90° elbow keeps the assembly compact, and the built-in shutoff lets you control flow at each riser independently.

What thread connects to the inlet?
The inlet is 1/2" Female Pipe Thread (FPT), which connects to a 1/2" Male Pipe Thread (MPT) riser — the same thread your old sprinkler head screwed onto. Pipe threads are tapered (NPT) and require thread seal tape. Do not confuse pipe threads with hose threads — they are not interchangeable.

What can I connect to the MHT outlet?
Per DripWorks, connect a female hose beginning (1/2" or 3/4") to attach your mainline poly tubing, or add a hose-threaded inline filter if needed.

Do I need a pressure regulator?
It depends on your incoming pressure. Sprinkler systems often operate above 35 PSI, while most drip systems work at 25 PSI or less. If pressure is too high, add a pressure regulator downstream of this fitting to protect your drip components.

What if my riser is 3/4" MPT?

Can drip and sprinklers run on the same zone?
No. Drip irrigation and sprinkler heads should not run on the same zone. Cap all unused risers in the converted zone to maintain proper pressure for your drip system.

✔ Compatibility Check

  • Riser Thread: Inlet is 1/2" FPT — requires a 1/2" MPT riser. For 3/4" MPT risers, use a reducing coupler and 1/2" nipple first.
  • Pipe vs. Hose Thread: Use thread seal tape on the 1/2" FPT inlet side. The MHT outlet seals with a rubber washer in the female fitting — no tape needed on that side.
  • Pressure: Sprinkler systems often run above 35 PSI. If converting to drip, consider adding a pressure regulator downstream to bring pressure to drip-safe levels (25 PSI or less).
  • Zone Separation: Drip and sprinkler heads must run on separate zones. Cap all unused risers in the converted zone.
