Description

The Fastest, Greenest Way to Install 1" Sprinkler Lateral Pipe.

The Hydro-Rain BLP-100-CL-1X is a 1" x 100' Blu-Lock HDPE Lateral Pipe Coil rated to 100 PSI and built to the ASTM D2239 SIDR 15 standard — the perfect choice for connecting sprinkler heads, rotors, and spray bodies on the downstream (valve-out) side of your irrigation system. Forget PVC primer, glue, clamps, and barbed fittings. With Blu-Lock pipe, you simply push the pipe into any compatible Blu-Lock push-to-connect fitting for an instant, leak-proof connection — no tools required.

Made from virgin high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this blue-colored pipe is significantly more durable than traditional PVC. HDPE has a failure rate roughly 200 times lower than PVC under extreme weather conditions, and it handles thermal expansion far better — expanding and contracting with temperature swings without cracking. The 1.07" ID x 1.21" OD outside-diameter design delivers up to 25% better flow compared to traditional insert barb fittings, and the pipe is rated for flow up to 16 GPM at pressures between 10 and 100 PSI. The flexible coil format is easy to handle, unroll, and route through a trench on any job site.

This pipe is designed for use exclusively on the downstream/valve-out side of irrigation station valves — it is not rated for constant-pressure mainline use. Need a smaller lateral pipe? DripWorks also carries the 3/4" x 100' Blu-Lock Coil (BLP-075-CL-1X) and the 1/2" x 100' Blu-Lock Coil (BLP-050-CL-1X) for smaller zones and swing pipe applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Blu-Lock pipe and how does it work?
Blu-Lock is Hydro-Rain's patented push-to-connect HDPE irrigation pipe system. The pipe is made from virgin high-density polyethylene and is designed to work exclusively with Blu-Lock push-to-connect fittings. You simply push the pipe end into the fitting — stainless steel teeth inside the fitting grip the pipe and hold it securely. No glue, primer, clamps, or tools are needed. All 1" fittings are also releasable and reusable using the Blu-Lock release tool or collar.

Can I use this 1" Blu-Lock pipe with regular PVC or barbed fittings?
No. Blu-Lock pipe is designed specifically for use with Hydro-Rain Blu-Lock push-to-connect fittings only. It is not compatible with standard PVC solvent-weld fittings, barbed fittings, or compression fittings. DripWorks carries the full line of compatible Blu-Lock fittings including elbows, tees, couplers, and MPT adapters in 1" size.

Is this pipe rated for mainline or constant-pressure use?
No. This pipe is rated for lateral use only — meaning it must be installed on the downstream side of a station valve, where water flow is intermittent and controlled. It is not rated for mainline use where the pipe is under constant pressure. Using it on a mainline could result in failure and leaks.

Why choose HDPE Blu-Lock pipe over PVC?
HDPE has a substantially lower failure rate than PVC under extreme weather conditions. HDPE also handles thermal expansion approximately four times better than PVC, making it ideal for regions with significant temperature swings. Additionally, Blu-Lock's outside-diameter (OD) technology ensures unobstructed flow, resulting in up to 25% better flow efficiency compared to traditional insert barb fittings. HDPE is also a recyclable, environmentally friendly material.

What size Blu-Lock pipe should I use for my sprinkler lateral?
The right size depends on your zone's flow rate and the number of heads on the lateral. The 1" pipe (this product) is best suited for higher-flow zones and larger residential or commercial applications with up to 16 GPM. For smaller zones, DripWorks also carries the 3/4" Blu-Lock Coil (up to 11 GPM) and the 1/2" Blu-Lock Coil for swing pipe and low-flow laterals.

Can I use this pipe with any irrigation controller or valve?
Yes — the Blu-Lock pipe system is compatible with any standard irrigation setup that uses solenoid-operated station valves. It is designed to work downstream from the valve. DripWorks carries a full range of irrigation valves and irrigation timers and controllers to complete your system.

Do I need a special tool to disconnect a Blu-Lock fitting?
Yes — while connection is tool-free, disconnecting a 1" Blu-Lock fitting requires the Blu-Lock release tool or collar (sold separately). The release mechanism is intentional: it ensures a secure, leak-proof connection during normal operation while still allowing the fitting to be reused if you need to modify or repair the system.

What is the maximum operating temperature for this pipe?
The Blu-Lock HDPE pipe is rated for use up to 100°F. It is designed for cold water, outdoor direct-burial irrigation use only. It should not be used in hot water or above-ground exposed applications where temperatures could exceed this limit.

✔ Compatibility Check

Before you install, verify the following:

  • Fitting Compatibility: This pipe is only compatible with Hydro-Rain Blu-Lock push-to-connect fittings in 1" size. It will NOT work with PVC solvent-weld, barbed, or compression fittings.
  • Lateral Use Only: Install this pipe on the downstream (valve-out) side of your station valves only. It is not rated for constant-pressure mainline use.
  • Pressure: Operating pressure range is 10–100 PSI. If your system pressure exceeds 70–80 PSI, consider using a pressure regulator upstream of your valve to protect downstream components including rotors and spray heads.
  • Temperature: Rated for use up to 100°F. For outdoor direct-burial cold water irrigation use only.
  • Size Match: Confirm you need 1" pipe for your zone flow requirements. If your zone has fewer heads or lower flow, the 3/4" coil may be more appropriate.

Complete Your Blu-Lock Irrigation System

Pair this 1" Blu-Lock lateral pipe with these essential components for a fully functional, glue-free irrigation system:

  • Blu-Lock Push-to-Connect Fittings: Elbows, tees, couplers, and MPT adapters — all in 1", 3/4", and 1/2" sizes. Required for connecting this pipe without glue, clamps, or tools.
  • 3/4" Blu-Lock Lateral Pipe Coil (BLP-075-CL-1X): The 3/4" version of this pipe, ideal for medium-flow zones or reducing down from a 1" header lateral.
  • 1/2" Blu-Lock Swing Pipe Coil (BLP-050-CL-1X): Flexible 1/2" swing pipe for connecting individual sprinkler heads from a 1/2" or 3/4" lateral line.
  • Funny Pipe, Adapters & Swing Joints: Flexible swing joint assemblies for connecting rotor and spray heads to lateral pipe with built-in break protection.
  • Irrigation Valves: Zone control valves to operate each lateral independently. The Blu-Lock pipe connects on the downstream side of these valves.
  • Irrigation Timers & Controllers: Automate your watering schedule with battery-operated or AC-powered controllers compatible with standard solenoid valves.
  • Pressure Regulators: Protect your lateral pipe and sprinkler heads if your supply pressure exceeds 80 PSI.
  • Rotors: Browse our full selection of gear-drive rotors — including Hunter PGP Ultra, PGJ, and I-20 models — designed to connect to 1" Blu-Lock laterals via swing joints.
