Hunter PGV 1” Screw Top Valve w/ Flow Control

Follow these steps to wire and install your Hunter PGV valve.

Step 1: Plumb the Valve
Using Teflon tape, thread your 1" PVC male adapters into the inlet and outlet ports of the valve. Ensure the directional arrows on the valve body point in the direction of the water flow.

Step 2: Connect the Common Wire
Identify the two wires attached to the solenoid. Connect one of these wires (it does not matter which) to the common wire returning to your irrigation controller using a weatherproof wire nut.

Step 3: Connect the Station Wire
Connect the remaining solenoid wire to the specific station/zone wire running back to your controller using a weatherproof wire nut.

Step 4: Adjust the Flow Control
Turn on the zone manually. Rotate the central flow control handle to fine-tune the water output until your sprinklers or drip emitters are operating at optimal pressure.

What is the difference between a Screw-Top and a Jar-Top valve?
A screw-top valve uses four heavy-duty bolts to secure the upper bonnet, providing maximum durability against pressure spikes. A jar-top valve features a threaded ring that unscrews by hand for easier maintenance.

Choose the screw-top model if you are installing the valve in a commercial setting or have higher than average water pressure.

Why do I need a valve with flow control?
Flow control allows you to manually dial down the volume of water passing through the valve. This is highly useful for optimizing pressure for sensitive drip systems or preventing excessive misting in sprinkler zones.

By turning the central handle, you can easily balance the flow to exactly match your landscape's needs.

Can I use this valve with a battery-operated timer?
No, this valve includes a standard 24-volt AC solenoid and must be hardwired to a plug-in residential or commercial irrigation controller. It will not work with a DC battery timer out of the box.

To use it with a battery timer, you would need to purchase and install a separate DC latching solenoid.

How do I manually turn this valve on without the timer?
You can manually activate the valve by firmly grasping the black solenoid cylinder and turning it a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. To turn the water off, twist the solenoid clockwise until it is hand-tight.
