Effortlessly navigate sharp corners and prevent flow-restricting kinks in your large-diameter pipelines with the DURA 1-1/2" Barbed Insert Elbow. Expertly engineered for professional-grade performance, this 90-degree fitting provides a robust and reliable solution for directing 1.5-inch polyethylene tubing in demanding irrigation, plumbing, and pool systems. Key Features & Benefits

  • Heavy-Duty Schedule 40 PVC Construction: Manufactured from high-quality, rigid polyvinyl chloride for exceptional strength, high flow capacity, and superior resistance to corrosion, UV degradation, and common chemicals found in irrigation and pool systems.
  • Aggressive Barb Design for a Leak-Proof Seal: Features sharply defined barbs that provide an excellent grip on the interior wall of polyethylene tubing, creating a tight, dependable seal when secured with hose clamps.
  • Proudly Made in the USA: Manufactured by DURA Plastics, a family-owned American company founded in 1962, ensuring the highest standards of quality control and material integrity.
  • NSF Certified for Potable Water: This fitting is tested and certified by NSF International for use in potable water systems, making it a safe and reliable choice for drinking water lines and other sensitive applications.
  • Versatile Multi-Market Application: An indispensable component for a wide range of cold-water pressure applications, from agricultural drip irrigation mainlines and commercial landscaping to residential pool, spa, and hot tub plumbing.
  • Conforms to ASTM D 2609 Standards: Meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM D 2609, the standard specification for plastic insert fittings, guaranteeing a precise fit and reliable performance with compatible polyethylene pipe.

Detailed Applications Section

Drip Irrigation & Landscaping

For large-scale drip systems and landscape projects, the DURA 1-1/2" elbow is the professional's choice for routing mainline poly pipe around obstacles, along property lines, or into valve boxes. Its durable construction ensures it can handle the constant pressure of a main water supply line, while its 90-degree bend maintains optimal flow rates without the risk of kinking the tubing.

Pool & Spa Plumbing

Create reliable and efficient plumbing circuits for your pool, hot tub, or spa. The chemical-resistant Schedule 40 PVC material is ideal for handling chlorinated water and other pool chemicals. Use this elbow to connect flexible polyethylene tubing for water return lines, suction lines, or connecting pumps and filters, ensuring a secure, long-lasting connection.

Agricultural & General Plumbing Use

This versatile fitting is perfectly suited for agricultural irrigation systems, greenhouse water distribution, and other general plumbing tasks involving 1.5-inch poly pipe. Because it is NSF certified for potable water, it can be confidently used in systems supplying drinking water for livestock or for connecting to well pumps and pressure tanks.

Installation Guide: Pro-Tips for a Perfect Connection

Achieve a secure, water-tight connection every time with these expert installation tips. While the design is straightforward, following these steps will ensure professional-level results.

  1. Prepare the Pipe: Ensure you have a clean, square cut on the end of your 1-1/2" polyethylene pipe. Remove any burrs or debris from the inside and outside of the pipe.
  2. Ease the Insertion: For easier installation, especially in colder weather, gently warm the last few inches of the poly pipe with a heat gun on a low setting or by dipping it in warm water for 10-20 seconds. This will make the pipe more pliable. Do not use an open flame or petroleum-based lubricants, as they can damage the pipe.
  3. Insert the Fitting: Firmly push the barbed end of the elbow into the softened pipe until the pipe is fully seated against the fitting's base. A rubber mallet can be used to gently tap the fitting into place if needed.
  4. Secure with Clamps: Hose clamps are required for a secure, leak-proof connection, especially in systems with pressures above 20 PSI. Slide two stainless steel hose clamps over the pipe and position them over the barbed section of the fitting. Tighten the clamps securely. For best results, orient the screw mechanisms on opposite sides of the pipe.
