Description

Linear Reduction. Smooth Transitions.

The Schedule 40 PVC Reducing Coupling is the standard solution for connecting two different sizes of PVC pipe in a straight line. Featuring a **Slip x Slip** configuration, this fitting joins a larger pipe directly to a smaller pipe using a permanent solvent weld. It is one of the most essential irrigation fittings for stepping down mainline sizes to zone lines or adapting flow requirements near irrigation valves.

Manufactured by Dura Plastics from high-quality Schedule 40 PVC, these couplers are designed to withstand high pressure and harsh underground environments. Unlike threaded bushings that can restrict flow or require tape, this coupling provides a smooth, leak-proof internal transition that minimizes turbulence and friction loss.

Why Choose Dura Schedule 40 Couplings?
  • Seamless Flow: Designed with smooth internal walls to reduce friction loss as water transitions from a larger volume to a smaller one.
  • High Strength: Meets ASTM D-2466 standards for burst pressure and impact resistance, making it suitable for both residential and commercial applications.
  • Corrosion Resistant: The virgin PVC material is immune to rust, scale, and corrosion from soil or fertilizers.
  • Permanent Seal: Solvent welding creates a fused joint that becomes stronger than the pipe itself.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Secure connections require proper solvent welding.

Step 1: Prep the Pipe
Cut both pipes square and deburr the ends. Clean the outside of the pipes and the inside of the coupling sockets to remove dirt and moisture.

Step 2: Prime
Apply Purple Primer to the outside of both pipe ends and the inside of the coupling hubs. This softens the PVC for a strong bond.

Step 3: Glue
While the primer is wet, apply PVC Glue to the pipe and the fitting socket.

Step 4: Connect
Push the pipe fully into the coupling with a quarter-turn twist to distribute the cement. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat for the other side.

✔ Compatibility Check

Ensure this fits your application:

  • Slip Ends: Both ends fit OVER standard PVC pipe.
  • Not a Bushing: This fitting connects two pipes directly. It does NOT fit inside another fitting.
  • Not Threaded: Requires Glue and Primer. Do not use Teflon tape.

Complete Your System

Don't forget these essentials for installation:

  • Purple Primer: Mandatory for preparing the surface for a permanent weld.
  • PVC Glue: The solvent cement that bonds the pipe to the fitting.
  • Pipe Cutters: Essential for clean, square cuts that prevent leaks.
  • PVC Tees: Use with tees to branch off different size lines.
