Description

Compact Reduction. Flush Manifold Design.

The Schedule 40 PVC Reducer Bushing (Spigot x Slip) is the space-saving standard for reducing pipe size within a manifold or fitting assembly. Unlike a large reducer coupling that sits between pipes, this bushing inserts completely inside the socket of a larger fitting (such as a PVC Tee or Elbow), allowing you to step down to a smaller line size without adding extra length to your system.

These flush-fitting components are essential irrigation fittings for creating zoned manifolds where a large main header needs to branch off into smaller zone lines. Manufactured from durable white Schedule 40 PVC, they require a solvent weld connection to ensure a permanent, leak-proof seal.

Why Choose a Reducer Bushing?
  • Space Efficient: Because it nests inside another fitting, it takes up zero additional linear space, keeping your valve boxes and manifolds tight and professional.
  • Smooth Flow: Designed to channel water smoothly from a larger chamber to a smaller pipe, minimizing turbulence at the reduction point.
  • Professional Quality: Injection molded from virgin PVC Type I, Grade I resin, meeting ASTM D-2466 standards for pressure handling and chemical resistance.
  • Versatile Application: Perfect for adapting a large pump outlet or header pipe down to standard 1/2" or 3/4" irrigation lines.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Double solvent welding is required for bushings.

Step 1: Prep All Surfaces
Clean four surfaces: the outside of the bushing, the inside of the bushing, the inside of the receiving fitting (e.g., Tee), and the outside of the pipe.

Step 2: Prime
Apply Purple Primer to all mating surfaces. Do not skip this step.

Step 3: Glue Bushing
Apply PVC Glue to the outside of the bushing and the inside of the larger fitting. Insert the bushing fully until flush, twist 1/4 turn, and hold for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Glue Pipe
Apply glue to the inside of the bushing and the outside of your smaller pipe. Insert the pipe, twist, and hold to set the final connection.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your connections:

  • Large End (Spigot): Designed to fit INSIDE a standard Schedule 40 fitting hub. It will NOT fit over a pipe.
  • Small End (Slip): Designed to fit OVER standard PVC pipe.
  • Example: A 1" x 3/4" Bushing fits inside a 1" Tee and accepts a 3/4" Pipe.

Complete Your System

Everything required for a successful installation:

  • PVC Tees: The most common fitting used with bushings to create manifolds.
  • Purple Primer: Mandatory for cleaning and softening the PVC before gluing.
  • Blue Hot PVC Glue: The industry standard solvent cement for irrigation lines.
  • Pipe Cutters: Essential for getting a clean, square cut on your pipe.
