Description

Install Your EZ-FLO Fertilizer Injector on a PVC Mainline with Precision Flow Control

The EZ-FLO Coupler with Ball Valve (FPT) is the essential connection fitting for installing an EZ-FLO fertilizer injector directly into a PVC irrigation mainline. Manufactured from Schedule 40 PVC with durable 1/4" 304 stainless steel barbed tubing connections, this coupler features Female Pipe Thread (FPT) inlet and outlet connections, making it compatible with copper, HDPE, steel, and standard PVC pipe systems. It is available in two sizes — 3/4" (SKU: IEZIBV34TH) and 1" (SKU: IEZIBV1TH) — to match your mainline diameter.

The integrated ball valve is what sets this coupler apart from a standard bypass fitting. By partially closing the ball valve, you can increase the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet ports, which forces more water through the EZ-FLO injector tank. This allows the injector to operate reliably even at lower system flow rates — below the standard minimum of 120 gallons per hour (GPH) — giving you precise control over your fertigation dilution rates across a wide range of irrigation scenarios. The 1/4" stainless steel barbed connections accept the flexible tubing that is included with every EZ-FLO injector system.

Why Choose the EZ-FLO Ball Valve Coupler (FPT)?
  • Adjustable Differential Pressure: The ball valve lets you fine-tune the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet, enabling reliable EZ-FLO injection at a wider range of water flow rates.
  • Works at Lower Flow Rates: By partially closing the valve, you can force adequate flow through the injector even when system flow falls below the typical 120 GPH minimum threshold.
  • Schedule 40 PVC Construction: Heavy-duty, pressure-rated PVC body stands up to outdoor conditions and irrigation system pressures.
  • Stainless Steel Barbs: 1/4" 304 stainless steel inlet and outlet barbs provide corrosion-resistant, long-lasting connections to the flexible tubing included with your EZ-FLO unit.
  • Versatile Pipe Compatibility: FPT connections thread directly into PVC, copper, HDPE, steel, and other pipe materials without special adapters.
  • Two Size Options: Available in 3/4" (IEZIBV34TH) and 1" (IEZIBV1TH) to match your existing mainline pipe diameter.

How to Install: Connecting the EZ-FLO Coupler to Your Mainline

Install your EZ-FLO fertilizer injector into a PVC mainline in a few straightforward steps.

Step 1: Choose Your Installation Location
Select a location on your irrigation mainline where you want to inject fertilizer — either before or after the irrigation valve. The coupler installs inline between two sections of pipe. Shut off your water supply before beginning.

Step 2: Cut the Mainline and Install the Coupler
Cut a short section out of your mainline pipe. Thread the FPT inlet of the coupler onto the upstream pipe fitting and the FPT outlet onto the downstream fitting. Use thread-seal tape (PTFE tape) on all male threads and hand-tighten, then snug with a wrench. Do not overtighten PVC fittings.

Step 3: Connect the EZ-FLO Injection Tubing
Attach the 1/4" flexible tubing from your EZ-FLO injector tank to the inlet barb on the coupler (higher pressure side) and the outlet barb (lower pressure side). Ensure the tubing is fully seated over each stainless steel barb for a leak-free connection.

Step 4: Adjust the Ball Valve for Proper Injection
Turn your water supply back on. Run the system and observe whether the EZ-FLO injector is drawing fertilizer. If flow is too low to activate the injector, partially close the ball valve to increase the pressure differential across the coupler. Adjust until the injector operates consistently.

Step 5: Set Your Dilution Rate
Use the adjustment valve on the EZ-FLO injector in combination with the ball valve setting to dial in your desired fertilizer concentration. Fill the EZ-FLO tank with your chosen water-soluble or liquid EZ-FLO fertilizer and begin fertigation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum flow rate needed for an EZ-FLO injector to work?
The standard minimum water flow for an EZ-FLO injector to operate is 120 gallons per hour (GPH).

However, this coupler's integrated ball valve solves that limitation: by partially closing the valve, you create additional restriction in the mainline, which increases the pressure differential between the two barb ports and forces enough flow through the injector — even at lower overall system flow rates.

What is the difference between FPT and MHT connections?
FPT stands for Female Pipe Thread (also called NPT — National Pipe Thread), which is used for threading onto rigid pipe such as PVC, copper, or steel. MHT stands for Male Hose Thread, which is the standard thread found on garden hoses and outdoor faucets.

This coupler uses FPT connections and is designed for permanent installation into a rigid pipe mainline. It is not a hose-thread product and will not connect directly to a garden hose or outdoor spigot without a pipe-to-hose adapter.

Can I install this coupler before or after the irrigation valve?
Yes — the EZ-FLO Ball Valve Coupler can be installed either before or after the irrigation valve, depending on whether you want to fertigate a single zone or multiple zones from one injector.

Installing before the valve allows one injector to serve multiple irrigation zones. Installing after the valve limits fertigation to that specific zone but gives you independent control per zone.

What size coupler should I choose?
Match the coupler size to your existing irrigation mainline pipe diameter: choose 3/4" (IEZIBV34TH) for a 3/4" mainline, or 1" (IEZIBV1TH) for a 1" mainline.

Using the correct size ensures you do not create an unwanted restriction in your mainline that could negatively affect system pressure or flow. If you are unsure of your pipe size, measure the outside diameter of your pipe.

What types of fertilizer can I use with an EZ-FLO injector and this coupler?
EZ-FLO injectors work with dry granular fertilizers, concentrated liquid fertilizers, and water-soluble powder fertilizers.

Avoid using fertilizers that do not dissolve fully in water, as undissolved particles can clog the injector tubing or barbs. DripWorks carries a selection of EZ-FLO compatible fertilizers formulated for use with these systems.

✔ Compatibility & Installation Notes

Please keep the following in mind before ordering:

  • FPT (NPT) Threads Only: This coupler uses Female Pipe Thread connections. It is designed for installation into rigid pipe systems (PVC, copper, HDPE, steel) and is not compatible with garden hose threads (GHT/MHT) without an adapter.
  • Match Your Pipe Size: Order the size that matches your mainline pipe diameter — 3/4" (IEZIBV34TH) or 1" (IEZIBV1TH).
  • Tubing Included with Injector: The 1/4" flexible connection tubing attaches to the stainless steel barbs on this coupler and is supplied with every EZ-FLO injector system. If replacing a lost coupler, standard 1/4" poly tubing is compatible.
  • Use PTFE Thread Tape: Always apply thread-seal tape to male NPT threads before installation to ensure a leak-free connection.

Complete Your EZ-FLO Fertigation System

Pair this coupler with the right EZ-FLO components for a complete, automated fertigation setup:

  • EZ-FLO Fertilizer Injectors: Choose from hose bib or mainline models to match your installation type. The ball valve coupler is specifically designed for mainline EZ-FLO units.
  • EZ-FLO Replacement Parts & Accessories: Keep your injection system running smoothly with replacement tanks, dip tube sets, and other EZ-FLO accessories.
  • EZ-FLO Compatible Fertilizers: Browse liquid and water-soluble fertilizers formulated for use with EZ-FLO injection systems.
  • Irrigation Filters: Always install a filter upstream of your injector to protect emitters and injector components from sediment and debris.
  • PVC Fittings: PVC couplings, nipples, and adapters for completing your mainline installation around the coupler.
