Description

All-in-One Rainwater Filtration & First Flush Diverter for Your Downspout

The Clean Rain Advanced Downspout Diverter (SKU: FFADV) is a compact, all-in-one solution that combines a rainhead leaf filter, a Smart Sense™ first flush diverter, and a stormwater overflow in a single easy-to-install unit. It attaches directly to your existing gutter downspout and automatically routes clean rainwater into a storage tank, rain barrel, cistern, or garden — helping you conserve potable water and make the most of every rainfall.

The Clean Shield™ filter technology deflects leaves and large debris away from the screen to maximize flow and minimize clogging. The built-in Smart Sense™ first flush system automatically diverts the first, most-contaminated runoff (containing roof dust, bird droppings, and debris) to your storm drain — without any manual intervention. The unit body swivels 180° for flexible outlet positioning, and an on/off switch lets you pause collection between rain events. Installation requires only a drill and hacksaw, and no plumbing expertise. Note: Water may not divert to storage during very brief rain events, as sustained flow is required to fully activate the first flush mechanism.

Key Features & Benefits
  • 3-in-1 Design: Combines rainhead filtration, Smart Sense™ first flush diversion, and stormwater overflow in one compact unit.
  • Clean Shield™ Technology: Deflects leaves and large debris away from the screen, allowing higher flow rates and reducing maintenance.
  • Smart Sense™ First Flush: Automatically diverts the initial contaminated roof runoff to the storm drain before cleaner water is routed to storage — no manual adjustment needed.
  • Mosquito Barrier: Stainless steel mesh screening at the outlet prevents mosquitoes and other insects from entering your stored water supply.
  • Multi-Fit Downspout Adapters: Includes adapters for the four most common downspout sizes: 2"×3", 3"×4" (rectangular), 3", and 4" (round).
  • Flexible Outlet: Body swivels 180° and connects to standard garden hoses, 1" sump hoses, 1½" pool hoses, and 3" Schedule 40 PVC pipe for cistern hookups.
  • On/Off Switch: Easily pause diversion between rainfall events with a front-mounted switch.
  • Minimal Maintenance: Mostly self-cleaning design; the Clean Shield™ screen removes quickly via quick-release tabs for occasional rinsing.

Install your Clean Rain Advanced in minutes with just a drill and hacksaw.

Step 1: Cut the Downspout
Remove a 23.6" section of downspout from the location where the Clean Rain™ will be installed. Ensure all cut edges are clean and smooth before proceeding.

Step 2: Remove the Clean Shield™
Lift the Clean Shield™ filter screen upward and outward using the quick-release tabs and set it aside.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "first flush" mean, and why does it matter?
The "first flush" is the initial flow of water off your roof during a rain event, which carries the highest concentration of contaminants — dust, bird droppings, pollen, and debris accumulated since the last rain.

The Smart Sense™ system automatically diverts this contaminated first flush to your storm drain, then switches to routing cleaner rainwater to your storage tank. No manual adjustment is needed.

Why didn't any water get diverted to my tank during a light rain?
The Smart Sense™ first flush diverter requires a sustained flow of water to fully activate. Very short or low-intensity rain events may not produce enough flow to trigger the switch from storm drain to storage.

This is normal and by design — the system prioritizes water quality. Longer rain events will reliably fill your storage once the first flush volume has been diverted.

How do I maintain the Clean Rain Advanced?
The unit is mostly self-cleaning, but the Clean Shield™ screen may need occasional rinsing: use the quick-release tabs to lift it out, then hose or brush off any accumulated debris.

The outlet mosquito barrier can be cleaned by firmly pulling the outlet adaptor free and rinsing it. Periodically check that the unit is still seated securely in the downspout.

Can I stop the diverter from collecting water when I don't want it to?
Yes. Simply flip the on/off switch on the front of the unit. In the off position, all water will be routed to stormwater during the next rainfall event rather than to your storage tank.

What storage tanks or containers does this connect to?
The outlet is compatible with standard garden hoses, 1" sump hoses, 1½" pool hoses, and 3" Schedule 40 PVC pipe, making it suitable for rain barrels, above-ground cisterns, and in-ground tanks.

✔ Compatibility & Installation Notes

  • Downspout Sizes: Includes multi-fit adapters for 2"×3", 3"×4" (rectangular) and 3", 4" (round) downspouts. Confirm your downspout dimensions before installing.
  • Downspout Clearance: You must remove a 23.6" section of downspout. Ensure there is adequate length on your downspout above and below the installation point.
  • Short Rain Events: The first flush diverter requires sustained water flow to activate. Brief or drizzle-level rain events may not result in water being diverted to storage — this is normal.
