Description

The Right Connection for Rotary Nozzles on 1/2" MPT Risers.

The 1/2" FPT Sprinkler Adapter (SKU: POPNA) is a small but essential fitting that bridges the gap between the fine nozzle threads found on popular rotary nozzles and the standard 1/2" Male Pipe Thread (MPT) on risers and stake assemblies. If you've ever tried threading an MP Rotator or K-Rain rotary nozzle directly onto a 1/2" MPT riser and found the threads don't match — this is the adapter you need.

This adapter is specifically designed to mate the fine (non-standard) threads used on Orbit Nozzles, K-Rain Rotators (K-Rain 10, 20, and 30), and MP Rotators (MP 1000, MP 2000, MP 3000, and Specialty MP Rotators) to a standard 1/2" MPT connection. It is required when mounting any of these nozzles on a Metal Tee Stake Assembly (POMELT) or any other 1/2" MPT riser. Without this adapter, these nozzle bodies will not thread on correctly.

Simple, durable, and affordable, the POPNA adapter is a must-have for anyone installing or retrofitting rotary nozzles on above-ground stakes or risers. Browse the full range of compatible rotary nozzles and adapters and swing joints available at DripWorks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why do I need this adapter? Can't I just thread the nozzle directly onto my riser?
Rotary nozzles from brands like K-Rain, MP Rotators, and Orbit use a proprietary fine-pitch thread on their nozzle bodies — these threads are not compatible with standard 1/2" NPT pipe threads. Without the POPNA adapter, the nozzle will not thread on correctly and may leak or be damaged. This adapter provides the correct intermediate connection.

Is this adapter required for all MP Rotators?
This adapter is required when mounting MP Rotators (MP 1000, MP 2000, MP 3000, and Specialty models) directly onto a 1/2" MPT riser or stake assembly. If you are installing MP Rotators into a standard pop-up spray body with a female nozzle seat, the adapter is not needed — spray bodies are designed to accept MP Rotator threads directly.

What is the difference between FPT and MPT?
FPT stands for Female Pipe Thread and MPT stands for Male Pipe Thread. This adapter has a female (inside) connection that accepts the nozzle body, and its outer shell threads onto a 1/2" MPT riser (outside threads). Standard 1/2" irrigation risers are 1/2" MPT, which fits into this adapter's 1/2" FPT socket.

Can I use this adapter with a swing joint or funny pipe?
This adapter connects nozzles to a fixed 1/2" MPT fitting. If you need flexibility at the nozzle connection point to protect against lawnmower or foot traffic damage, pair the POPNA adapter with a swing joint or funny pipe assembly that terminates in a 1/2" MPT outlet.

What spray bodies work with MP Rotators if I don't need this adapter?
MP Rotators are designed to thread directly into standard spray bodies without an adapter. DripWorks carries a full selection of compatible pop-up spray bodies that accept MP Rotator nozzles.

✔ Compatibility Check

Before ordering, confirm the following:

  • Nozzle Type: This adapter is for Orbit Nozzles, K-Rain Rotators (K-Rain 10/20/30), and MP Rotators (MP 1000/2000/3000/Specialty). It is not a universal adapter for all nozzle types.
  • Riser Thread: Your riser or stake must have a 1/2" MPT (Male Pipe Thread) outlet. If your riser is a different size, this adapter will not fit.
  • Spray Bodies: If you're installing MP Rotators into a standard pop-up spray body, this adapter is not needed — spray bodies accept MP Rotator threads directly.
  • Stake Hardware: The POPNA adapter is required when using the Metal Tee Stake Assembly (POMELT) or any 1/2" MPT riser with the compatible nozzle brands listed above.

Complete Your Rotary Nozzle Setup

Pair this adapter with these essential components for a fully functional above-ground nozzle installation:

  • Rotary Nozzles: Browse MP Rotators and K-Rain Rotators compatible with this adapter — ideal for water-efficient, low-precipitation-rate irrigation.
  • Metal Tee Stake Assembly (POMELT): Install a spray nozzle at ground level in your 1/2" poly tubing quickly and easily with this stake assembly — requires the POPNA adapter for the nozzle brands listed above.
  • Spray Bodies: Pop-up and shrub spray bodies that accept MP Rotators and other rotary nozzles directly — no adapter required when used with a spray body.
  • Funny Pipe, Adapters & Swing Joints: Flexible swing joint assemblies to protect nozzle connections from lawnmowers and foot traffic.
  • Stakes & Risers: Above-ground stakes and threaded risers with 1/2" MPT outlets — the mounting points this adapter connects to.
  • Irrigation Timers & Controllers: Automate your watering zones with battery or AC-powered irrigation timers compatible with standard solenoid valves.
