Description

Professional Farmer's Choice. Industrial Performance.

The Spears Ball Valve is widely regarded as the "best in class" solution for managing water flow in high-performance irrigation systems. Used by professional farmers and landscape contractors, these valves provide a robust shut-off point that handles pressure with ease. We recommend installing this valve as a main zone control downstream from your irrigation timer to allow for manual system isolation and winterization.

Molded from high-impact PVC in the USA, these irrigation fittings are designed to withstand the rigors of farm and garden use. Unlike standard economy valves, Spears valves feature a full-bore design that virtually eliminates pressure drop, ensuring that your drip irrigation emitters receive consistent water pressure across the entire length of your mainline.

Why Choose Spears PVC Valves?
  • Full Schedule 80 Bore: In the full open position, the internal diameter matches the pipe, providing optimum flow and minimizing turbulence.
  • Safe-T-Shear® Stem: Developed to prevent internal fluids from leaking in the event of accidental damage to the handle or stem assembly.
  • High-Impact Polypropylene Handle: Features a double-stop engagement and ergonomic design for effortless operation, even under pressure.
  • NSF Certified: All Spears EPDM valves are certified by NSF International for use in potable water service and residential landscapes.
  • Maintenance-Free Unit: The one-piece sealed unit design never requires internal adjustment and is built for years of corrosion-free service.

Installation: Best Practices

Follow these steps to ensure a leak-free PVC installation.

Step 1: Prep the Pipe
Cut your PVC pipe square. Use a PVC pipe cutter to ensure a clean edge and remove any internal burrs.

Step 2: Clean and Prime
Apply Purple Primer to the outside of the pipe and the inside of the valve socket. This chemical step is critical for a strong solvent weld.

Step 3: Apply Glue
Apply Blue Hot Glue to both surfaces. Insert the pipe into the valve, twisting a quarter turn to spread the cement evenly.

Step 4: Allow to Cure
Hold the fitting in place for 30 seconds to prevent the pipe from "pushing out." Wait at least 15-30 minutes before pressurizing the line.

✔ Compatibility Check

  • Slip Connections: Fit over standard Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe.
  • Threaded Connections: Use NPT threads; compatible with PVC nipples and risers.
  • Temperature Limit: Max operating temperature is 140°F. Not for use with hot water.
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent resistance to most acids, bases, and agricultural fertilizers.

Complete Your System

Get everything you need for a professional PVC installation:

  • Blue Hot Glue: The industry-standard solvent cement for wet or dry conditions.
  • Purple Primer: Essential for softening the PVC surface to create a permanent weld.
  • PVC Fittings: Find the tees, elbows, and caps needed for your zone manifold.
  • PVC Pipe Cutters: Achieve clean, effortless cuts on pipe up to 1-1/4".
