December Gardening Checklist for Northern California Gardeners

The PVC Slip x Slip Coupler is the fundamental building block for any PVC irrigation system. Designed with two female socket ends, this fitting connects two pieces of Schedule 40 PVC pipe of the same size in a straight line. Whether you are running a new main water line to your garden or repairing a cracked section of pipe, this coupler ensures a seamless, high-flow connection.
Manufactured from durable Schedule 40 PVC, these couplers are rated for underground use and high-pressure applications. Because they utilize a solvent-weld connection, we recommend using a high-quality PVC Glue to create a fused bond that is often stronger than the pipe itself.

A secure connection requires proper preparation.
Step 1: Cut and Clean
Cut your PVC pipe squarely. Use a deburring tool or sandpaper to remove any burrs or rough edges, which can push the glue away from the bond area.
Step 2: Prime
Apply Purple Primer to the outside of the pipe and the inside of the coupling socket. This softens the plastic for a true weld.
Step 3: Glue
While the primer is still wet, apply a coat of PVC Glue to both surfaces.
Step 4: Connect
Immediately push the pipe into the coupling with a quarter-turn twist to distribute the cement. Hold firmly for 30 seconds to prevent push-out.
