Place them more frequently — every 6–12 inches — around bends and corners where tubing tends to spring back or shift. In loose or sandy soils, tighter spacing helps prevent pull-out.

What is the difference between U-shaped and J-shaped hold downs?
U-shaped hold downs are stronger than J-shaped hold downs and are especially well-suited for heavy or compacted soils.

J-shaped hold downs with round tops are commonly used to hold tubing, drip tape, or pipe in all soil types, while square-top J-stakes are typically used for landscape fabric. Both feature pointed ends for easier installation.
