Description

Semi-Self-Cleaning Debris Protection for Hardwired Systems

The 3/4" Y Screen Filter (FYSC34) utilizes innovative "Spin Clean" technology to provide superior, low-maintenance protection for your hard-plumbed drip irrigation or sprinkler system. Featuring standard 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT) on both the inlet and outlet, this robust filter integrates seamlessly into PVC manifolds and connects perfectly with standard irrigation valves. What sets it apart is its unique internal design: incoming water is swirled, actively forcing sediment and debris down into the bottom basin rather than allowing it to cake onto the screen. This semi-self-cleaning action keeps your delicate drip emitters and micro-sprayers free of clogs longer than standard Y-filters.

Designed to handle flow rates up to 9 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) at a maximum of 80 PSI, this filter is equipped with a highly durable 150-mesh stainless steel screen. When the bottom basin eventually fills with captured debris, maintenance is incredibly fast and simple—just turn the convenient ball valve at the bottom to flush the sediment out instantly while the system is pressurized. For a complete and fail-safe head assembly, we highly recommend pairing this screen filter with a compatible 3/4" pipe thread pressure regulator. Please note: To function correctly, this filter must be installed facing downward, and it is not rated for constant pressure.

Why Choose the 3/4" Spin Clean Y Filter?
  • Semi-Self-Cleaning Action: The unique swirling design deposits debris into the bottom basin instead of sticking to the screen, drastically reducing maintenance frequency.
  • Instant Ball Valve Flush: A highly convenient drain valve at the bottom allows you to blow out accumulated sediment in seconds without unscrewing the canister.
  • Standard Pipe Threads: Features 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT) for easy, watertight integration directly into standard PVC pipe manifolds.
  • 150 Mesh Stainless Screen: Comes with a durable, long-lasting stainless steel filter screen perfectly sized to protect drip emitters and soaker hoses.
  • Reliable Flow Capacity: Smoothly handles flow rates up to 9 GPM, making it perfectly suited for standard garden beds, greenhouses, and row crops.

How to Set Up: A Step-by-Step Guide

Build your pipe-threaded drip irrigation head assembly safely.

Step 1: Prep the Threads
Because this filter utilizes Pipe Threads (MPT), you must apply 2 to 3 wraps of Teflon tape to both the inlet and outlet threads to ensure a watertight seal. Do not use liquid pipe dope.

Step 2: Attach to Your Valve (Crucial Orientation)
Thread the inlet of the filter directly into the downstream side (outlet) of your automated irrigation valve. Important: The filter must be installed facing downward, and the directional flow arrow must point away from the incoming water source.

Step 3: Add a Pressure Regulator
Thread a compatible 3/4" pipe-threaded pressure regulator onto the outlet of the filter, followed by your tubing adapter to transition into your poly mainline.

Step 4: Routine Flushing
Periodically open the ball valve at the bottom of the filter while the system is actively running and pressurized to quickly blow out any sediment trapped in the lower basin.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the "Spin Clean" feature work?
The filter's internal geometry forces incoming water into a swirling, centrifugal motion. This spinning action throws heavier dirt, sand, and sediment outward and down into the bottom basin, preventing it from sticking to the stainless steel screen.

This semi-self-cleaning action means you have to manually scrub the screen far less frequently than with standard Y-filters.

Can I install this filter horizontally?
No, to take advantage of the Spin Clean action and allow the sediment to properly fall into the flush basin, the filter canister must be installed pointing downward.

Always follow the directional flow arrow stamped on the body to ensure water is moving the correct way through the screen.

Can I leave this filter under constant pressure?
No, this filter is not rated for constant pressure. It has a maximum limit of 80 PSI and must be installed after your automated timer or irrigation valve.

Installing it before the valve leaves it pressurized 24/7, which can eventually cause the canister body to stretch, crack, or leak over time.

How should I prepare my filter for winter?
Before the first freeze, open the bottom ball valve to drain all water from the basin. Then, unscrew the canister, remove the stainless steel screen, and bring both components indoors for the winter.

Leaving water trapped inside the rigid plastic canister during freezing temperatures will cause the housing to crack.

✔ Compatibility & Design Check

Please note the strict requirements for this component:

  • Thread Type: Features standard 3/4" Male Pipe Threads (MPT/NPT). It will not thread onto standard garden hoses or hose bibbs without an adapter. Teflon tape is required.
  • Orientation: Must be installed facing downward with the flow arrow pointing away from the incoming water source to function properly.
  • Not for Constant Pressure: Must be placed downstream of automated timers or valves. Do not subject the filter to pressures exceeding 80 PSI.

Complete Your System

Ensure your drip irrigation head assembly is protected and ready to run with these recommended products:

  • Irrigation Valves: Connect your filter downstream of a reliable AC or DC irrigation valve for fully automated, safe watering.
  • Pipe Thread Regulators: Essential for dropping high pressure down to safe operating levels for your downstream drip tubing.
  • PVC Fittings: Browse standard schedule 40 PVC fittings to safely integrate this 3/4" MPT filter into your rigid pipe manifold.
