Description

The Standard for Mainline-to-Tape Connections.

The Tape Loc x 1/4" Barb is the most common method for connecting 5/8" drip tape directly to polyethylene mainline tubing. It provides a simple, economical, and reliable takeoff point for your drip tape rows.

Designed to be inserted into a standard punched hole in 1/2", 3/4", or larger supply tubing, this fitting creates a secure friction fit on the barb side and a leak-proof, locking connection on the tape side. It is the industry standard for field and garden tape layouts.

Why Choose Tape Loc Technology?
  • Simple Installation: Just punch a hole in your mainline and snap the barb in. No glue, clamps, or threaded fittings are needed for the mainline connection.
  • Positive Locking Mechanism: The distinctive locking nut twists down to mechanically clamp the tape over the barb. This "annular compression" creates a seal that prevents "blowouts" caused by pressure surges or warm temperatures.
  • Fully Reusable: Unlike compression fittings that "bite" into the plastic and require cutting to remove, Tape Loc fittings can be unlocked and removed in seconds. Perfect for seasonal gardens where lines are moved or stored.
  • Tool-Free Tape Connection: No clamps, ratchets, or hot water required for the tape side. The large, textured nut is designed for easy hand-tightening.
  • UV & Chemical Resistant: Molded from high-grade polypropylene with UV stabilizers, these fittings resist cracking from sun exposure and are chemically inert to standard fertilizers.

Understanding compatibility is key to a successful installation. The Tape Loc system is engineered exclusively for flat drip tape.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Punch Hole in Mainline
Lay out your 1/2" (or larger) poly tubing. Use a standard 1/4" Punch Tool (like the Purple Handle or Miracle Punch) to create a clean hole where you want your drip tape row to start.

Step 2: Insert Barb
Push the barbed end of the fitting firmly into the punched hole. You should hear or feel a "snap" as the barb seats inside the tubing.

Step 3: Prepare Tape
Cut your drip tape squarely with scissors. Critical Tip: Inspect the cut end. If there is a hard plastic emitter inside the tape within the first inch, cut it off. Trying to lock the fitting over an emitter is the most common cause of leaks!

Step 4: Connect Tape
Rotate the locking nut backwards to expose the tape barb. Slide the drip tape over the barb until it hits the stop. Twist the locking nut forward (clockwise) to lock the tape in place.

Troubleshooting: If a leak appears on the tape side, do not use pliers. Back the nut off, check that the tape is fully seated and not folded, and retighten by hand.

✔ Compatibility Check

This fitting is for 5/8" Drip Tape ONLY.

  • It will NOT fit 1/2" and 3/4" Poly Tubing (Mainline) on the tape side.
  • It will NOT connect to 1/4" Micro Tubing.
  • The 1/4" barb is designed to insert INTO mainline tubing, not connect TO it.
  • If you are using solid black tubing that does not flatten when empty, you need Easy Loc fittings, not Tape Loc.

Complete Your System

Ensure your drip tape system runs smoothly by having the right tools and accessories:

  • Punch Tools: Required to create the hole in your mainline for this barb fitting.
  • Pressure Regulators: Essential for keeping system pressure below 15 PSI to prevent tape bursts.
  • Tape Loc End Caps: To securely close off the end of your drip lines with the same easy-flush capability.
  • Tape Loc Tee: To branch your drip tape lines.
